So she will go to prison for a mistake and something that isn't her fault?

This is why i hate moral-fags, they want to put everyone in prison for the tiniest things.

How is this rage fuel?

Opening the prosecution case, Rees said: “The prosecution allege that Vinnie’s death was preventable and would have been prevented had the defendant, Ms Rose, done her job properly.”

He added: “At the heart of the prosecution case against the defendant is the allegation that the defendant’s failure to detect the swollen optic discs and refer Vinnie on for further investigation was grossly negligent on her part.”

Bitch didn't do her job and deserves what she gets.

>The jury heard photographs taken by another member of staff of the back of his eyes shortly before he was examined by Rose suggested he had bilateral papilloedema – the optic disc at the back of each eye was swollen because of the raised pressure within his skull.
>Rees added: “The prosecution say that the abnormalities in his optic discs would have been obvious to any competent optometrist who had examined them.”
Just fucking read, dude.
>>
>>81277535
and? this isn't proof that the swelling was present when she did her examination
>>
>>81275252

nah man, you dont understand how little these doctors take their job seriously. it's 100% a cashcow for 99% of them.
they barely look at you anymore, they are incompetent and arrogant.
as a doctor you get paid well, so do your job with a good conscience
if we find that you didnt even attempt to do it properly then you deserve to be in jail

>Kid was referred to an optometrist because of issues with his eyes (a side effect of brain swelling, caused by pressure on the optic nerve/swollen optic discs)
>Optometrist doesn't even make a token effort, just says "he's fine" and sends him packing
>Extremely obvious swollen optic discs found in post mortem medical examination

Literally all she had to do was take a look and refer him to a specialist or MRI. Gross Negligence is absolutely applicable.
>>
>>81277673
>Staff member took images of the back of his eyes SHORTLY BEFORE he was examined
>These images suggested swelling
You're retarded
>>
>>81277673
The kid died from the swelling, so it just magically went away when she took a look, then came back after?

Not likely.

What actually happened: She's an incompetent doctor.

They have no incentive. Here in the US they run tests for everything if there is something wring with you. In the UK they just give you anitacid tablets for cancer i guess.
>>
>>81277895
>>81277723
>>81277535
The issue I have is swelling would present a myriad of other chronic symptoms, vision issues or loss nonwithstanding.

The kid should have had constant worsening headaches leading up to the time of collapse. Possible problems with attention and focus. Things that were continuous, frequent, and slowly worsening. If the parents decided to trust the optometrist and go no further they are also at fault - ignorance applies to all parties. If the parents ignored persistent and worsening symptoms they are also at fault - in this case ignorance indeed is manslaughter. If the parents did notice symptoms and attempted other medical help, but the system couldnt accomodate and was too late to respond, the optometrist is at fault but also the NHS system for being so woefully broken. Refer above to the 72 year old board of directors case.
>>
>>81278511
The kid was referred to an optometrist because he was presenting those symptoms.
>>
>>81275252
how is it not her fault? read your own shitty article before opening a thread fucktard
>>
>>81278511
Not in the early stages.
Presentation

There may be few visual symptoms in early cases, although symptoms of raised ICP include headache (worse on waking, straining and bending), nausea and vomiting.
Hypermetropia may increase due to changes in shape of the back of the eye. With chronicity, blurring of vision and eventually peripheral or complete visual field loss may be experienced.
In contrast to other forms of disc swelling, VA is not impaired initially but in later stages there may be an increase in size of the blind spot.
>>
>>81278611
My point is that he died 5 months later. The parents simply ignored persistent, worsening symptoms because of one visit is what you imply
>>
>>81278802
YOu are basing that off what, exactly?
>>
>>81275252
how the fuck is an eye doctor at fault for a problem with the brain
>>
>>81278960

>>
>>81277384
depends on the amount of swelling and or presence of other symptoms like venous engorgement or hemorrhaging.

If there were photos taken of the eyes a trained optometrist can advise upon the case and determine if it was in fact negligent.

From the article, [prosecutor] said it is agreed that at the time of Vinnie's examination on 15 feb 2012 there were "obvious abnormalities" in both of his eyes.

When an optometrist shines bright light into your eye and makes you follow his finger while being blinded they are looking at the vessels in the back of your eye/area around your optic nerve to check for this sort of thing.

That said boy should have experienced increasingly severe headaches, nausea, possible palsies, and cushing's triad - a fucked up pulse, and irregular breathing. They should've taken him to see a diagnostician, tho optometrist isn't necessarily bad. He had ICP for at least 5 months prior to his death. There had to have been other symptoms. Furthermore, as he was nearing his death these signs/symptoms would be increasingly noticeable as they were affecting his health to the point that he died.

Rule of thumb: increasingly severe headaches over an extended period of time: get it checked out. Early treatment of pretty much whatever is better then delayed treatment. Even big tumors can still grow
>>
>>81278890
He. Died. Five. Months. After. The. Initial. Visit.

That's an extreme case insofar as duration is concerned. It's unreasonable to expect no further symptoms had appeared after that which caused the parents to bring him to the first doctor.
>>
If it was an ophthalmologist I'd understand, but how can you expect an optometrist to tell you anything other than the kind of glasses you need?

So? The fact it was preventable doesn't change the fact it was gross negligence leading to the death of another on the part of the optometrist.

Gross negligence doesn't mean 'oh they missed some small detail', it means they effectively lied about doing the job, either because they were too lazy or too incompetent to perform the work to a sufficient standard.

Suppose you take your car to a mechanic to get the brakes checked, and the mechanic just tops up the brake fluid and replaces the pads and completely misses that the brake lines are torn. As you drive home you run a red light and hit a pedestrian because your brakes failed. That is manslaughter through gross negligence. Sure, the death could have been prevented had you noticed the brakes were still a bit funny and refused to take the car, but that doesn't absolve the mechanic of responsibility.

I fell for the nursing meme. It's not very fun. Part of me wants to do anesthesia but liability is extremely high since the nurse is responsible for keeping the pt alive, all the doctor does is cut shit. Medical field is a meme and I should have gone into some kind of blue collar shit, like radios or fiber optic laying. Sure it's 70k and 3 days a week, but nurses are expected to care and 90% of people who get sick deserve it and directly brought it on themselves. How can I feel sympathy for that? The walking and paperwork doesn't bother me, it's the pretending I give a shit that wears me out.

>Eight-year-old Vincent “Vinnie” Barker died on 13 July 2012 – about five months after he had a routine eye test at Boots opticians in Upper Brook Street, Ipswich.
>five months
5

Worse than a doctor making a false diagnose are the people believing the doctors everything, not consulting internet or other doctors, looking for symptoms.
I mean the child must have screamed from headaches over months.

That during these months the parents drag him to a different doctor? Nah... better blame it on someone else.

I hate people following their doctor's every word without thinking.
