Operation Fast & Furious.
People don't realize how fucking treacherous this op was.
For people that don't know...
This was an ATF operation endorsed by Eric Holder.
The goal was to walk as many guns as possible into Mexico, where they would then be found in relation to cartel murders and other crimes. No effort was made to track the guns. The only point of the op was to get the guns into mexico and into the hands of criminals.
The logical conclusion would be that we need gun control not just because guns create violence in the USA, but the over the top violence in Mexico is directly related to the 2nd Amendment in the USA.
For a long time the media ran with this. "Guns from USA contribute hugely to Mexican crime!".
Then it turns out that guns walked under Fast & Furious were used by mexican criminals to kill border patrol agents, mexican government officials, and more.
Eventually it all blew up on the ATF.
But it was literally a plot for US weapons to be used to kill as many mexicans as possible in a roundabout way to force gun control on the USA.
