One of the big problems with this country is people have no investment in it. They are too wrapped up in personal identity and ego, and it destroys national unity. Imagine if we had to go through a situation like in WW2 where there was actual rationing and drafting, and people actually felt the effects of the nation's foreign policies. With our current detached, weakened state, there'd be riots within the week.
Fair taxing is but one of many paths to rebuilding the spirit and unified culture of the country. People care more about their home when they are helping to pay for it's upkeep.
