The writers put it there because politicians in the real world behave this way. It's irrelevant if the writers believe this shit or not, they're not trying to push it.
EVERYTHING in this show is about furthering their own goals- it simply details their means, not them as people. We have no clue what these characters are actually like- that is the point of the show- and perhaps the message, politicians are shells of people, only existing to further their own goals. These goals define them, and beyond that they are vapid as we all are.
Point being- don't be distracted by it- it's not about that, and EVERYTHING the characters do is acting, the characters don't believe/care about any of it. You're missing a major point if you're distracted by the buzz words

The plot lines are incidental to the premise of the show, which is to reveal the backroom machinations that go into formulating policy. If you are objecting to the liberal propaganda, you are missing how those liberal policies come into being. Being a liberal myself, I would not object to conservative propaganda, if that's what HOC was nominally about, bc I'd be looking for the corrupt backroom machinations that showed me how conservative policies came about. This is a show about the machinations, not about the plot devices that are being manipulated to give you a glimpse into how things really get done. If you are focusing on the warm yellow/cold blue hues to interior sets, you are not looking deep enough.

All of the liberal causes they advocate are just a means to an end.
