he goes into detail that there are differences between the poor and working poor, though many working poor think of themselves as middleclass.
Also the republican ideals are spread via members of the community who are "self-made republicans" when going to local bars, church, or any social functions. Where as liberals or democrats tend to think individually or spread messages via internet or other media, usually to others like minded people. many prefer to stay in their comfortable suburbia lives with out "roughing" it at the grassroot level.
Joe Bageant goes into more detail and into other topics like why some of the working poor max out 7 credit cards for a caravan and a small plot of land, and how it is worthless and only increases their debt.
