I can see the appeal of it in theory but I'm way to much of a homebody to enjoy it myself.

but obviously it should be done with no social media and no hotels, as cheap as possible

there's a difference between tourism/resort and travelling imo

There are many different motivations to travel, m8. Whatever makes you feel better about yourself though.
>>
Travelling to different places is pretty awesome but just like so many other things people turn it into some kind of prop to prove how cultured and great they are.

They do it just so they can say they've been to places, tell some boring anecdote about "Oh when i was in ____" to seem interesting in conversations or make it part of their life story that "When itravelled in India i really found myself! Tee hee"

You can have lots of great experiences when travelling, see things you've never seen before. But do it for yourself and not so you can show off on social media or pretend like it was some life changing experience.

I've been to almost all of western Europe now.

What I enjoy is visiting historical sites, trying local foods and learning about our shared heritage. Honestly before it's all gone.

I'm kicking myself over not going to Palmyra before ISIS blew most of it up. I had an opportunity.

I managed to get into Turkey just before the bombs started going off there.

We're fighting people who are iconoclasts and who hate the western influence anywhere they are. Don't be surprised to see them bomb or deface major museums or landmarks.

I've traveled to every state in the US plus Mexico and Canada because of my job. I've learned that you don't need to travel to get "experiences". People travel to get a small break from their shitty lives once or twice per year for a few days. Instead, they should be working on changing their lives today, tomorrow, and every day afterwards. Happiness starts at home. Traveling the world is escapism.

Traveling makes you understand the world far better than reading any amount of (international) newspapers or foreign television or talking to shitheads on the internet.
After I finished my studies I've been backpacking for about 6 months on a minimum amount of money. If you just hop from one tourist destination to the other then you don't see anything but global consumer culture. The less money you have available the better the trip, I think.
You should put some amount aside to visit museums and so on, though.
If you go abroad to get wasted you are doing it wrong.

EH. I don't know man I think you're reaching.

My wife and I do a lot of traveling, inside and outside the United States as often as possible. Occasionally we'll hit up an area specifically because it's a party spot (Prague and Berlin during our honeymoon), but most time's its for a cultural immersion experience (underground restaurants in Tokyo, 5 hour long dinner in Florence).

Traveling is awesome for two reasons:

1) If you smile enough and are sociable enough, you'll learn a lot about how other people live, taking the best of their attitudes and incorporating it into your mentality.

2) As AMAZING as some other countries are, ANY international travel will alllllwayssss remind you why the United States is unquestionably the greatest country in the fucking world and you should be damn glad that you live there.

Americans don't get enough time off each year to travel properly. They tend to study in work in places other than where their families live, so they spend a lot of time traveling to meet up with family each year (like over Thanksgiving). Nationalist school curricula don't help either -- you get Americans who can name the capital of every US state but can't name the major countries in Europe. I'm Australian and have genuinely had Americans here ask me about the Alps and about how good I must be at skiing.

The most basic reason for travel is that it stops you from being an ignorant fuck about the rest of the world. It makes you more aware of how global histories have intersected to create the particular circumstances of your own upbringing. It also shows you obviously some of the ways your own wealth (as a Westerner) is reliant on the poverty of others.

People who dislike travel usually have small minds. The one great exception is John Mandeville, who wrote his amazing "Travels" without ever leaving his small village in England.
>>
Ironically, I was a liberal cuck until I started travelling more...

My girlfriend is from Eastern Europe, I travel across Europe every year and spend about a month there, and I see the difference between East and West. I work with people from places like Bangladesh and Kashmir, who have childhood experiences that can only be described as extremely painful.

If travelling doesn't make you racist or question how things are where you live, then you're doing it wrong.

Liberals only go to 1) the nice places, 2) shitholes like India, which they romanticize because they're not actually living there, and get to use that sweet Western Capitalist currency to get the good experience.
>>
>>80731069
I don't think you understood me.
I really hate that glorified hole in the ground. I don't give a fuck about any white water rafting there may be, there are plenty places to do that. The Grand Canyon is bullshit.
>>
I'm very wealthy, so when I was younger traveling was the standard option after A-Levels, during university and after university. The more ridiculous and obscure the better. Usually you would start out with InterRailing, before progressing onto Thailand. Then you would hear about some other third world hellhole being "incredible" and you would get there. You would spend your time there, all of it, with other rich British and American kids. If you wanted to score some political or social brownie points you might rent a car or a motorbike and go and meet the locals. This is where you would take most of your photos to show your family and friends back home, not you fingering the Fulbright Scholar from Northwestern in the disabled toilets of the Bangkok Hilton.

It dawned on me when I was about 22 that I was essentially doing the same thing as people who I considered to be below me, except instead of Benidorm I was in Lech.

Traveling is great fun and you can have an excellent time, but the idea that it makes you more intelligent or appreciative is farcical. So is the tiresome trend of going to the most dilapidated, backward places possible and calling it "untouched" or "traditional".

>Liberals only go to 1) the nice places, 2) shitholes like India, which they romanticize because they're not actually living there, and get to use that sweet Western Capitalist currency to get the good experience.

They either go to shitholes to prove how in touch they are to their dinner party friends, or to try and convince themselves that they understand how the rest of the world lives.

The more obscure the location, the more drawn out and pointless the routine, the better.

/trv/ here

If you don't do it, you wont get it. It is an education unlike any other. I have learned and grown the most in my life as a result of travel (it literally turned me from an autistic neckbear to awesome pussy slaying world travelling mountaineer).

There is a big difference between a canned vacation to the bahamas and trekking across Nepal for a month. That said, do what you enjoy and don't be afraid to go out of your comfort zone. I have lived abroad for most of my adult life and would not trade it for anything.

normal human being travel to the wilderness and live there for the time it takes to get your mind off of the madness that is the modern world.
Enjoy living far from everything for a couple days, read some nice books, eat fresh food you just hunted and cooked yourself.
Nothing better.

Yes, the difference is that people will look down their nose at you for doing the first one despite it having much more merit as a holiday. You can relax, swim, eat well, drink well, have fun, read a book, properly relax. That's what you want to do when you're running a business or have worked hard all year.

I've done all the inane bullshit. I've been to Peru, Bolivia, Cambodia, India, Morocco, all the third world places and I have the gaudy souvenirs to prove it. There is nothing admirable whatsoever about going to a shithole. It might seem great when you're in your 20s and think trips are measured on how few people have heard of the place, but when you get older it changes.

The best holiday I ever had was last year. We drove from Puglia, through Italy, into Austria, across into Switzerland through Liechtenstein and down into France for the Monaco GP. I spent about £55,000 in total and it was probably the most fun I've had as an adult.

Everyone stay in your own faggot countries, if you want to learn about Muh Culture fucking read a book or go on the internet. People fail to realize travel is a huge part of the "Global economy" these satanic niggers are building. Think about it for one min, If 80% of the people that travel for work and pleasure stopped for a while it would hurt the global elite very much and also TSA would be out of a job because it would cost way more to fund them than the job they are doing. Boycott the fucking planes M8.
>>
>>80732507
Yeh I understand this, though honestly i still respect people who do world travel as their holidays etc than those who go to a Spanish/Greek island to drink twice a year, or maybe NYC which seems to be the current normie meme. Though I have lots of people on FB who seem to spend months and months hanging around in Asian, African and South American places and it sometimes seems a bit off to me about it.

I do like to travel though and its my main expense and I try to go at least twice a year since i did the interrail meme at 19. I usually just to places i really like so have done Japan twice (20 days a time), Seoul for a week and I go to Italy and France once a year usually just for 4/5 nights and eat some food and go to the cathedrals really. I don't really feel the need to spend shittones of cash to go to the jungle or a run down village, I go for nice buildings and nice restaurants.

>>
>>80732507
Oh i can definitely agree with you
I had many such experience with my own parents.
If we went somewhere it had to be the most """authentic""" experience possible. Usually that meant no electricity in a deep jungle. The more primitive the better. But then they would still have to have some of the western comfort things. Like we went to this bumfuck nowhere village and slept at this dude's house. In the morning oh man we 100% need to brush our teeth, oh yeah we're so sorry clean water is in limited supply for you let us brush our teeth in it too. You'd then slip them a 20 euro bill or equivalent to feel good about yourself and maybe say something like "oh those people have it hard, think about how good you have it kids", leave and never come back because really you never gave a fuck. I hated being in places like that. The people there often seemed to be more bothered by our presence than anything else like we were forcing ourselves on them.
>>

I was fortunate to travel a lot when I was younger. My grandfather would take me for a month or two to a foreign land on summer break. He was a professor and studied culture. Big time people watcher.

He made sure to try and get me to experience cultures far different than mine, meaning no western Europe. Tibet was pretty neat.

Those are the reasons to travel. To actually see the world and experience it. There's a lot out there, and pictures don't do any of it justice.
>>
I love to travel. It's cool to be the person discovering another culture. Even if its not as rad and dangerous as being an 19th century explorer there's still a lot of fish out of water going on. Try travelling to inner China or Kazahstan or South America etc. Travelling is about getting out of the 9 to 5 and enjoy yourself while living a minimalistic life. Real travelling is like being a hobo.

Going with your friends to get drunk is not really "travelling" in my book, its just having a holiday.

Late summer I'm going to Cuba, and after that I'm gonna take the Trans Siberian Railway to Beijing. Travelling isnt necessarely about fucking and drinking but you get to do those too.

My dream is to go to North Korea, its just so different I wanna see it.

For people with little adventurer feelings travelling might be boring, but I enjoy not knowing what wacky situations the next day might bring. A "normal" life is not for me, I get bored, depressed and apathetic when I do the same shit every day.

Skiing is probably the only time where I think more obscure = good.

I realise Lech isn't obscure but Vorarlberg, and the rest of Austria really, is full of excellent ski resorts that knock the spots out of anything in France, Italy and Switzerland. Very few British and Americans there, low prices, beautiful villages and good food.

I was in Warth last winter and stayed around the Lech, Warth and Zurs area. You can smoke indoors, the women are beautiful, no gap year twats, no "chalet girls" from Guildford, no Arabs and most importantly you aren't in some hideous concrete jungle. I got dragged to Zermatt a few years back and not only was it shite, it was full of the worst people imaginable (Arabs, beginners, people called Henry and Imogen from the Home Counties). Don't even get me started on Val d'Isere, which is legitimately the worst place in the modern world.

It baffles me why families blow ten grand in Tignes when they could ski in better resorts, stay in a better hotel, eat better food and have a nicer time basically anywhere in Austria for half the price. I'm made of money and I'd never go skiing in Switzerland or France again, it's simply not worth it.

Koreans are a whole other ordeal. They visit 10 european countries in 12 days rushing from monument to monument with 60 other people they don't know. When korean meals aren't provided they consume some of the 100 cup ramyon they packed with them because eating anything non-korean is out of the question.
Maybe if they feel crazy and go to China/Japan they will dare eating local food but because they jewed out to get a cheaper tour they get shit food and come back telling you that Japanese sushis aren't good.
They come back and all they have is a bunch of generic pictures and they will say things like I really liked france when they spent 18 hours in paris.

It's the polar opposite of what I grew up with. The less contact they have with the local and the shorter it is the better.
Thankfully that's much less the case with the younger generation but they still love to do the whole visit 20 cities in 20 days, said cities being in 8 different countries, which is absolutely beyond me. Such a relentless way of travelling i just don't understand.

Bottom square is horseshoe bend. Notice the green background. That's because it's within grand canyon national park.
Also: http://grandcanyon.com/planning/east-planning/horseshoe-bend-the-intimate-grand-canyon-experience/
Also, to fix another one of your mistakes. The top rectangle is where lake powell begins. Horseshoe bend is most definitely not included.

Are you done yet?

There was a thread yesterday about some Russian who wanted to take a trip and explore England. He linked us a Reddit thread where he asked questions, but he also included "I want to see a place that's not ethnic, meaning there's mostly Anglo-Saxons" and a bunch of reddit fags freaked out at him and started posting pictures of ethnic cities in England and saying "If this makes you mad don't come". When looking at these photos it honestly reminded me of the shitty cities here and are started to ask myself, if all these countries are the same as America, meaning consuming the same American entertainment and having the same types of people (a mixed ethnic shithole) why would I even bother to go? There just isn't going to be a distinct English culture if everyone shares a different culture.

Good for you, anon. This area is pretty based granted you have some money. It's not as wild and lawless as Ukraine or Russia but its way less cucked than most Western Countries. Only issue is money and annoying gypsies here.

Invest in assets. Travelling is degenerate and needs to be banned.

Wtf does traveling have to do with your political stances?

Your basement dwelling is showing.

nah I'm not dumping her, we're engaged and want to spend the rest of our lives together, but trust me I'm not giving those fuckers one penny
>>80736223
I'm putting it off for as long as fucking possible that's a given. And yeah fuck the heat.
>>80736343
nah, really she is just a normal person who happens to be black, fairly normalised IQ as well (though I guess that's a little higher than the average black IQ), we both got firsts from uni if that counts for anything

3/4 of the year I'm floating from hostel to hostel in Europe and any Americans itt should do the same.

I get more pussy than I know what to do with and everyone gives me attention + all the languages make it fun. In America I'm invisible and depressed, but as soon as I step off the boat in Belfast it's like stepping into a new world and becoming a new man.

I'm well travelled. I became better informed and more conservative as a result.

Is the Grand Canyon that close to human development?

You sure do, every time you wake up.

Seems pretty dope if true. Enjoy the good life anon. Just don't pidgeonhole us americans. We are a big country with a lot of different people. Someday I hope to come to Georgia and do some hiking and 4x4 in the mountains.

Why do I feel that the only people who value travel greatly are those from shitholes.
BTW Gerone, Barcelona and Saragosse are god tier if you want to relax IMO. Do the locals like those places as well?

This, travelling and living in Korea and Japan have turned me into a conservative from a liberal.

Only tiny towns here and there. It's basically a desert so there's not much to live off of except tourism.
Many monuments aren't as pristine as we like to think.
>>
>>80737264
Fucking backpacker sluts is no feat worth bragging about. And you'll have to come home eventually and you'll realize that you've just been escaping reality through travel. If you're a shitty person, you'll be just as shitty.

They dumped a whole block of restaurants and hotels right along the southern rim in the 70's.

As I said before, putting paved roads in national parks was a mistake. It absorbs all the tax funding to maintain all the pavement and infrastructure, so they can barely afford to monitor anymore.

At least it's not like the old days where they actively encouraged people to feed bears.

Most travellers I meet are Western Euro middle class fags who basically spend their parents money on alcohol and hookers.

Thailand, Laos, Indonesia etc. are full of these people.

Reversion to the mean, Kiddo!

Actually, I'd be more bothered about fucking up your kids' sense of identity, not to mention putting them at risk given the likely turn of events coming soon in the world.

>>80732172
But all you're doing isn't culture it's just the weird things 90% of the locals don't do
You're just doing the Hot Topic of traveling

Glen canyon, that's the town of page arizona.

>>80737115
Nobody that lives there considers it the grand canyon since THE grand canyon or any major part of it is at least 2 hours from this spot.

Nobody but the retarded park services would call this the grand canyon.
>>
>>80737595
Reminds me of Taj Mahal, its a fucking shithole (duh its in India) like 200 meters from it. They keep the shit outside but you can walk 300 meters in any direction and its good old India with shit everywhere and cows and trash.
>>
>>80737619
Honestly escapism isn't even bad. Life is fucked and you're so minuscule that you won't realistically change anything in the grand scheme. Might as well forget and enjoy the moment.
>>
Travelling is usually listed as their main hobby has a guise as they have no real interests and are boring people but at least they can tell you which country they've went to.

Libs do this in order to show off how mature and global their point of view is and how they managed to respect the multiculturalism of other cultures.

I know these feels every day.

>>80737595
Why is there such a sharp contrast between civilization and desert? Why cant the make the rest of that place livable?
>>
>>80724887

It's character building, if you do it right. You can do it wrong, aka how woman do it.
>>
>>80737619

Yeah I'm a shitty person but that's irrelevant when I'm in Europe because I can escape that reality, that's my entire point.

And it is a feat to brag about if you're someone who's literally never had sex with an American girl

It's the Nile. The Pyramids were built close to the river because they needed to ship the rocks down the Nile.
