There have been lots of studies and allegations, and they are pretty much all debunked. Outside of rare outliers, looking at all the facts of the case (instead of just the charge, race and sentence) explains the difference.
But that doesn't stop folks from making facebook images about 'this innocent black man got 30 years for rape, while this white guy got six months'. They neglect to mention that the black guy plead not contest against charges of kidnapping and repeatedly raping a women (which she admitted were false years later), while the white guy fingerbanged a chick who was 'too drunk to give consent'.
It's almost like the circumstances were different in each case.

It ignores that the laws vary a bit between states, and that each person had a different lawyer defending them. It also ignores plea deals.
Blacks tend to get more time due to shitty public defenders and not accepting a more lenient plea deal offer. Whites pay more for better lawyers and take plea deals a good portion of the time.
