It's a combination of several factors. First and foremost, no one told me to do any sort of internship. My boomer parents thought that staying a male virgin until Christian marriage was the most important goal in college, and literally only emphasized that. The offer I'm taking is 25/hr + very good benefits including minimum 3 weeks vacation starting in their lowest level role. They have another role ready for me in 6 months apparently.
I know I could be making a bit more but my industry is cozy AF and if this is what I can get with no leverage I'm pretty excited about how things will be after 2-3 years experience. Our workforce is one of the highest-aged in the country so there's an incredible amount of headhunting/sniping.

part of the reason I got so many interviews was I knew this, so I got a lot of personal referrals and networking done so that I was on the inside track. Micro bio has better prospects that macro, and bioinformatics has better prospects than both. Biomed engineers also work in the bioinformatics space.
At the end of the day a lot of this is still R&D level though, which generally means less opportunity esp in our semi-permanent recession.
If you want a good chance at a decent job, R&D isn't probably the top field. Also in bio R&D there are a ton of type A daddy's girl womyn who will be treated with preference to you and also generally have no life.

My last job I managed to get only by lying that I had 2 years experience thanks to my families business (that no longer exists but can be still easily be found on google) while they were asking for 1 year medical office experience. I was thinking of maybe making a spoof website for my family business, put a fake number that leads to my moms phone and then she can act as my supervisor. Then I can crank the 2 years to 5 years experience.
But no matter how much I lie, they like me over the phone but when I go in person they're like "oh shit he's black we can't back out now" and the interview lasts 5 mins.

Big corporate groups with money to burn tend to have strong EE programs. But those companies are clustered in certain areas. If they're under the radar so to speak, I don't think being a visible minority is much of an advantage.

PROTIP: look into temp work, in your field if you can. Makes it waaay easier to get your foot in the door, at which point you just work hard and show you're not a piece of shit and you'll eventually get hired as a permanent employee after 1-2 years, making money and networking and getting work experience for your resume all the way.
Temp work and Community Colleges are the way to go these days, in all honesty. Work your way up from the bottom, stay debt free, PROVE YOURSELF.

What am I supposed to write in the introductory section of my CV? The examples on the internet include statements like 'HIGH ENERGY INDIVIDUAL', 'Hands-on leader' and 'Talented and driven'. These phrases all seem somewhat corny, so I instead used a succinct account of myself without many adjectives for my CV. But I've been a NEET for a rather long time, so something is evidently wrong with my methods.
