I was a subscriber almost from day 1. Here's what happened...
You might know from his occasional "personal message from Stefan" vids https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejZ_R-IrmI0 asking for donations/subscriptions that Stef makes all of his income from youtube ad revenue and donations. He's otherwise a stay at home Dad.
Basically he failed at making philosophy/Libertarianism into profitable youtube content. A review of how it got to this point:
About 9 years ago, he started the channel. It was serious philosophical discussions, lectures ("Intro to" series), conferences, e-books. Great content, awful marketing. He did like 20 vids in a row with him sitting in a car. He'd do a 90 min series called "Free Will" and barely get 1000 views (now still only 3k). He still has many 40+ min videos with viewcounts in the hundreds. After 2 years finally he had his first hit ("The Truth About Voting") and shifted to current events ("True News"). Then he hit a bombshell with "The Story of Your Enslavement". He picked up a ton of subscribers from this. The channel then activated for revenue.
His philosophy content continued to flop though and was hard work. In 2012 his major book attempt "Universally Preferable Behavior" was negatively reviewed at the LVMises Institute. Actually, they utterly and completely trashed it, saying "He fails, and fails miserably. His arguments are often preposterously bad" and calling him "The Molyneux Problem"
1 year ago he posted his first Donald Trump video, and it was downhill from there. Almost every video either sensationalist crap like "Sexual Market Value" or rehashing major current events. At some point he just gave up serious content and just did what was popular. Currently it's justifying racism and shilling for Donald Trump. In the last year his estimated youtube revenue went from $25k/year to currently about $10-15k/MONTH.

Libertarianism is just a more inclusive group that includes minarchism but is fundamentally based on anarcho-capitalism. If a libertarian doesn't understand this then they aren't really libertarian. They may just have a collection of political views matching up with Libertarians. The fundamental beliefs have to be there. Valid point, we contradict our beliefs all the time for the sake of our income. As a physician I have to report shit like gun ownership by psych patients and drug use by pregnant women.
