Suckerpunch was good. It sounds so pretentious considering it's not a very pretentious movie, but literally every critic I've ever seen review it didn't understand it and so blamed the movie for them being dumb.
The plot could not be more simple, step father kills mother, finds out her will leaves everything to her kids, intends to kill kids so he inherits everything, little sister is killed, older sister goes into shock, stepfather blames the girl, has her sent to a mental hospital to be lobotomised, she pretends she isn't in a mental hospital in order to help her cope, makes friends, they plan to escape, she imagines every step of the plan as a sci-fi/fantasy mission, and I won't spoil the ending.
But yeah Ive seen like 3 reviews on Youtube where they've not understood the premise at the beginning somehow, and are expecting the fantasy elements to somehow directly reflect what's happening in the real world. It's got really good action, the cinematography is pretty good, and it gets away with mixing multiple types of sci-fi and fantasy. Not to mention the ending is neither happy nor unhappy, which I appreciate in a film
