I think I'll try this again since you guys didn't get it the first time, which is okay. You were all probably brainwashed by anti-smoking rhetoric to realize the error of banning smoke indoors. People should be allowed to smoke if they want to.

>B-but what about secondhand smoke?

It's not a health risk so anyone who bans it for that reason is full of shit. That's really the only justification most people usually give for banning it anyway. The real reason is "it stinks and I don't like it" which shouldn't be a bannable offense. That's SJW tier thinking.
>>

Smoking bans are pretty gay. I was born far too late to enjoy it in public.
>>
>>80413028
m8, cmon, frequent smokers have been getting lung cancer for decades.
I mean, I disagree with the legal ban on smoking in indoor areas (though I think the business should have the right to ban it if they desire, such as small bars that don't want the entire bar to smell like smoke), but don't act as if smoking isn't a poison.
>>
Smoking is degenerate, you can defend your shitty habit all you want OP. It's still going to be a drain on your money and health no matter how much mental gymnastics you do.
>>
>>80410097
Fucking degenerate drug addict.
>>
>>80412619
No I mean junkscience.

Richard Doll ad the surgeon general completely misinterpreted findings regarding smoking to try and prove a "vaccines cause autism" style link in order to leave the tobacco industry open for lawsuits and money plundering. They were successful. These "studies" we're either completely false statistics or bad surveys that meant nothing.

Then in the 90's they pushed secondhand smoke as a thing, which ends up being successful as well until it was called out by a judge in North Carolina.

http://www.smokingaloud.com/osteen.html

They won on an appeal though, because they're corrupt as shit.

It's simple, yet completely ignored by the people since less people smoke in this country now. As a result people don't want to put up with smells that they find offensive, so they ban it, kind of like how people ban free speech or guns.
>>
>>80410097
>People should be allowed to smoke if they want to.
In their own homes, sure, not my problem if you want it to reek and have holes in your furniture.

It absolutely is a public health risk though, enjoy your chronic carbon monixide poisoning and addiction to the most boring drug possible.

I just quit smoking, I've been off for 80 hours now and I'm already feeling a bit more active, ofc i wouldn't mind people smoking in the same room as I but isn't it a bit stupid to go against all the studies that says tobacco harms your health?

I mean if i had the choice to smoke 100% organic tobacco with no added shit i would probably smoke but I'm not falling for the mega corps like Phillip morris to take my money and my health

So greatest people of all time were degenerates?
>>
>muh lung cancer

This whole idea needs to be reconsidered after recent findings into the age of cells in our body. We don't have the same lung cells we were born with, they regenerate every 3 weeks.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1219995/Believe-lungs-weeks-old--taste-buds-just-days-So-old-rest-body.html

How could smoking possibly do harm to the lungs if the lungs regenerate that often?

What we should be concerned about is fluoride in the water. Science shows that stuff stays in the stomach acid (which does not regenerate, its not cells!) over time and massively changes the ways our bodies digest food.

TL;DR: Until MODERN science determines smoking is bad, we should unban it so as to not be unnecessarily infringing on peoples rights until we're absolutely certain its bad.
>>
>>80413028

>>
>>80415241
As i said, the old guys were probably smoking good and clean tobacco, I've read that you can find the same substances in ciggarettes that you find in bombs, i mean, the industrial ciggs basically make money on keeping you hooked and buying 1 pack a day.

Tobacco in itself is probably healthy, aswell as cocaine plants which they use in south america, but it's all a matter of how you use it.
For exemple, a homemade hamburger is probably more healty than a hamburger you buy at McDonalds
>>
>>80415238
When cells divide (or the lung regenerates in this example) the cell copies genetic data over, but because of outside forces like the sun this copy isn't always perfect. This causes mutations.

In the case of something like a lung, which regenerates far more often, these mutations would naturally occur much more often thus causing more cancer in lungs statistically than an organ that doesn't regenerate as often let's say a bone.

We simply haven't had enough time since the smoking ban to observe that there was no correlation between smoking and lung cancer.

Still, I think that every business should be allowed to make their own choice... and I would just not go into any place where smokers were. Freedom works.... but... now that we are socializing medicine we need for force a lot of health options. Bungee jumping should be illegal. I shouldn't have to pay taxes to subsidize risking sports. Gays should also be illegal. Their health care costs are ridiculous. I think abortions should be paid for but deliveries should not. The cheapest option should be good enough for everyone, besides, raising children is damned expensive and adds to the health care burden.

You're almost there you just haven't reached it yet.

Yes, alveolar lining replaces itself regularly. Similarly to skin. But guess what, when you expose the cells to damaging substances such as high temperature vaporized organics, you increase both the rate of non-mitotic mutation and the rate at which the cells must be replaced (and therefore the rate of mitotic mutation). It's the exact same reason that long term UV exposure causes skin damage.

My good, friend, yes, Japan has a high per-capita consumption of cigarettes, however we only factor in their number, and not the quantity of nicotine and gudron.

Moreover, Japanese have a healthier lifestyle, (barring the amerifat meme) and drink less, quoting from Takashi et al (2008)

> lower alcohol consumption by Japanese males
> lower fat intake by Japanese males

Best part is I actually get a lunch AND breaks, I might have to stay late because I am the DESIGNATED shipper (I'm one of 2 certified for IQC, Import/Export, among other things) but they never cut my hours, never hold me unpaid while a rolling lab comes to perform a secure drug test, and I haven't been robbed at this job.
Hell, I don't even chainsmoke anymore, a pack lasts me a WEEK now, I might have one after lunch and when I get off, a couple when i drink. But I don't get that blinding rage and anxiety anymore that I would quell with half a pack of cigs.

More than probably, the lovely lady in your picture smoked more than a million cigarettes. Does that mean that everybody that smokes a million cigarettes will live to 100? What if it only works with females?

What if it only works when you start smoking when you're older? (you don't know of the granny started smoking at 90 years just because she stopped giving a fuck)

What if you found an image of a 100 year old man sucking dick on his birthday? Would you start sucking dick?

Good job that's what I said, but my point is I'd agree that there's very fair reason to tell people not to smoke in enclosed spaces indoors. It's not a "ew it's mildly inconvienient to me", it's "I can't breath faggots".

In someone else's car, that's different. I'm not an asshole. In a public place, smokers could fuck right off with that shit.

They smell like shit and stink up the joint. But you're right there is not much reason for a government ban. if the government really thinks they are so bad they should just ban them outright, otherwise take your huge tax slice and shut up.
Also it cracks me up when people in big cities whine about second hand smoke and then don't even notice they breathe carbon monoxide all day from automobiles and trucks.
>>
>>80410097
This is how it all went down:

They pushed second hand smoke because the tobacco companies always backed the GOP. Dems were jealous of all that money and waged a propaganda war against big tobacco.

The vast majority of Americans said "meh, we don't care if they smoke, it's their body". So Dems had to twist reality so that it was no longer a personal freedom issue; ie: second hand smoke.

After years of being shot down, some hack "proved" secondhand smoke was a genuine threat to others and then the media finally broke through and convinced people it was true.

Once the secondhand smoke lie was accepted as fact by a majority of Americans, smoking bans were easy to put in place, as were extreme taxes, etc. Everyone had been convinced that smokers were LITERALLY attacking them if they caught even a tiny whiff of cigarette smoke.

In the end, smoking is fucking stupid. It's a nasty habit and it kills the user. That said, smoking bans are a complete infringement upon property rights, and the second hand smoke lie really only exists because Dems were jealous about big tobaccos support for the GOP.

If you don't believe me, just look at liberal logic surrounding tobacco vs EVERYTHING ELSE.

Sexual promiscuity, homosex, dog sex, pedo sex, drugs, alcohol, etc etc. All of that shit is fine, but tobacco? Oh god that's the devil's substance, if you smoke you're the most evil person on the planet...

Smokers are confirmed Addicts. I am always going to be all for banning anything that makes people degenerate addicts. The alcohol ban gave us the mafia but the gradual smoking ban is doing better, and if we ban smoking it makes it easier to keep marijuana from being legal too.

Appeal to authority is along the lines "the big boss-man said so".

How the fuck is 2nd hand smoke not a thing in your fantasy world? If inhaling 2nd hand smoke isn't dangerous then why would smoking be unhealthy in the first place?

Get your head out of your smelly tar-ridden ass.
>>
>>80423656
This is really interesting. Do you have any useful source that sums this up?

I feel like a campaign against alcohol akin to the one against smoking would work extremely well. Blanket banning never works for anything. What you need is slow societal change that turns people against something.

I've actually done a lot of research on the subject and the percentage of lung cancer patients who smoke is usually the only statistic provides. If you look up the number of smokers who actually get lung cancer it's barely higher than the general populace. Sorry if this has already been stated didn't read the whole thread. I've smoked since I was 16 and I have no problems resulting from it and I run regularly ( in the military).

Well that's the thing, you need to be active, otherwise you lose lung capacity fast. I smoke and so do most of my friends, the basement dwelling potatoes get winded after a flight of stairs, while myself (I frame houses) and another guy I know (who's a brick layer) can easily swim a mile without panting like a bitch. Coincidentally all the potatoes are huge stoners as well, that can't help.

You've never had to deal with the massive ass pain that is customs on an lcl container that gets searched.

They literally rip the fuck up on everything, mix your shit with everyone elses shit, break half your shit and (get this) you gotta pay them to do it. Three weeks later (you paying per day for storage) they decide you weren't smuggling anything, your manifest was correct and they release what's left of your shipment.

They can do this just willy nilly when ever the fuck they feel like it.

Oh and your boss thinks its all your fault for some reason.

Fun fact, getting a shipment off a boat and onto a common carrier truck costs more than all other legs of a shipment combined.

God I hate international freight. And yes they count Puerto Rico as international, because reasons.

And my fucking hell acronyms for everything, and half of them have the same acronym as with domestic trucking but mean completely different things. It's maddening.
