Libertarians always devolve into subversion and disruption of social institutions and civil society when they gain influence. The Libertarian distrust of government is not born of their confidence in other social institutions, rather it's a product of their general mistrust of collective social power. Thus, when they gain power, using that power to marginalize the influence of other social collectives (i.e. social institutions and civil society) follows naturally. The problem is most Libertarians are hyper individualistic (even borderline autistic), and you can't run society on the basis of pure individualism. The destructive effects are a product of malice, but of a fundamental failure to understand how most human beings function on a social level.

Most human beings would do awful things to survive when placed in an extreme situation. I'm not claiming Soros is a saint. The real question is why is he now, from a position of security and prosperity, doing things which destabilize society. These actions seem to provide no clear benefit to him. In fact they are contrary to his interests. As an elite in our society any instability we experience could jeopardize his position. What's more, he's expending considerable resources pushing his open societies agenda.
Except when in engaged in deliberate deception, human beings tend to be reflexively honest. We want other people to think like us, so we tend to share our thoughts and feelings in a sincere manner. I take Soros at his word that he wants to build a more interconnected world based on the open society model because he thinks that's the ultimate road to peace and prosperity for mankind. There is a lot of truth to this. Studies have shown that power can act like a drug: clouding people's judgement, driving them to get the next "fix", pushing them to rationalize anything they have to do to get the next "hit". The Western social tradition has long recognized that "power corrupts". I suspect the Jewish ethos is a bit disabled in dealing with power, because Jews have held real power so rarely in their history.
