First of all, during peacetime these engineers would be a 100x more useful in the private sector. But I digress, engineers are not the BULK of the military. in the US and Canada, the average solider is some poor black dude who didn't have anywhere else to go, or was memed into thinking they would get free college, hell my buddy in the US air force has even said when they asked why they joined, most people said for free college (which they wont capitalize on, because people interested in college actually go, they don't fuck around) even my buddy just wanted to travel, and didn't really have anything else he wanted to do. ofc you will find the odd one with a degree as well, and ofc they do need SOME skilled labour.
