That's a flash hider, not a compensator/muzzle brake. It does little to the felt recoil.
The AK-74 series of muzzle devices counteract recoil and muzzle climb as well as horizontal drift. When shooting an AK, it will still recoil upwards, but it will do so more softly and without the 45 degree climb that ARs have.
Regardless of your opinions on the weapons themselves, the standard AK has a much better muzzle device than any standard AR.
