I genuinely have no fucking idea how economies and banks and shit work

What do all these numbers mean? Why are graphics going down a bad thing? Why is a bank failing bad for the "economy"?

What the fuck does a bank have to do with basic human needs like energy, shelter and food?

This is all just crazy talk for me.

I'm no guru but from what I understand DB has a lot of bad debt on its books that it can't unload

its assets-to-liabilities ratio is not healthy. In other words, how much it's worth vs how much it owes. It owns a bunch of debt that it's, I guess, unable to monetize or turn-around or whatever.
>>
>>80050822
Sure DB and CS could get fucked.
If the central banks respond well i don't think it'd be too much though. It mostly rests on how well managed the risk was on the derivatives.
It's DB because its strictly an I-Bank without the commercial side to support the investments with sustainable income.

Consob, Italy's Securities and Exchange Commission, has banned the short selling of shares in stricken Italian bank Monte dei Paschi di Siena for at least three months from Thursday morning, in the latest sign that Italy's banking system is teetering on the brink of a major disaster.

WHAT THIS MEANS

The oldest bank in the world, Monte dei Paschi is about to need a bailout, very soon.

That bank has made a number of large derivative trades with Deutsche Bank to hide its balance sheet. If one bank in a derivative trade defaults, the trading partner has to bear the full cost of the derivative in what is called COUNTERPARTY RISK.

Deutsche Bank has been doing terrible, and currently has 90 trillion dollars of derivatives on its books.

Therefore, if something bad happens in Italy, DB's stock will start to plunge, and the world economy will enter a crisis larger than 2008

Germany's economy is a paper tiger, they trive as much as other countries plunge into shit because the general idea on the markets is that when the EU goes well Germany goes well, when the EU goes to shit Germany goes to shit.

>If the central banks respond well i don't think it'd be too much though.

from what I understand there's a lot of cold-feet around cash infusions in Europe right now. The Italians want to do it for themselves but the Germans won't let them, and now it looks like possibly the Germans will have to do it for themselves. Except the politics of bailouts have gotten extremely dicey, particularly since it's bound up in the overall stability of the EU.

If you want silver in the USA buy junk silver coins, (pre 1965)

You can buy for less than the spot price of silver, they come in various sizes so you could trade with them if shit hits the fan, they are not faked like bars are sometimes, you save 5% over bars 10% to 20% over eagles, you can buy them and sell them anywhere, usually with no sales tax, postage etc, you can buy small quantities or $1000 face value bags

Basically in a nutshell banks (create money), when you or I put 1USD into our bank account they loan out 90cents of it and hold 10cents in reserves.

That's how local banks work, the central banks like the Philly FED or the NYC FED set the interest rates and the reserve rates. The reserve rates prevent a Run on the banks- like what happened in the 1930's And the interest rates are used to loan money between the FED Banks and your local bank. Lets say they set the rate at 3% that means our banks loan us maybe at a rate of 5 or 6% to make up the difference. Everyone pays their share and everyone is happy, until a fucker like Obama comes in and sets the rate to 0% or negative and then our banks go bust because surprise our local banks go under, while he prints more money for his stupid projects and ideas and then we all die of starvation.

In a nut shell they have done all of the following PLUS much much more.

We are so fucked you can't even imagine OR everything is OK because future generations will have to pay for it. Nobody really knows....Welcome to humanity where math doesn't matter because FUCK MATH!

Your local retailer doesnt except gold either, bitcoin is a store of wealth.

The physical aspect of gold is mimicked by the scarcity enforced by the oritocol. The outcome is the same, except you get the added benefit of a global payment network with zero intermediaries.

Bitcoin has performed better than any asset/currency on earth every year of its existence. Those who invested sure were retarded huh.

The funny part is that cryptocurrency is simply the evolution of gold and the only way past the fiat financial era. Yet some goldbugs are still blind to this.

One thing that I've often wondered is what the process of "mining" is supposed to achieve

Why didn't the creators of Bitcoin and other currencies simply create all the Bitcoins that would ever exist and leave it at that. What does the process of "mining" accomplish?

It's pretty obvious that the "mining" is a scam to fool people into thinking they are literally mining a scarce resource, and suck people into the Bitcoin bubble

The only value one can legitimately ascribe to Bitcoin is it's ability to conduct transactions free from government interference. But I highly doubt this is enough to underscore what it's trading at in the current market

So basically some bank accountants/trader/analysts (whatever they fucking call themselves) find some weird glitch in the economy which enables them to acquire millions of fiat digital currency???

All this weird abstract shit

property geared fractional reserve stock......

blah blah FUCKING BLAH!!!!

IT'S ALL A LOAD OF FUCKING BULLSHIT

Isnt this just gonna completely fuck up the economy because it warps the value of money itself?

Silver coins are fucking useless in a happening scenario. You're literally better off using the money you would've wasted buying silver on 1 can of ravioli and 1 water bottle per day and storing them in your basement so you can save money eating from your stockpile because you're going to get scammed off for your silver or worst you're going to be trading a silver coins for a water bottle.

Precious metals are only viable if you're buying them in bars, anything else is a waste of time.
>>
>>80052097

Most banks offer bullion exchange services.

Plenty of fees though. You have to buy at higher than market value and sell lower. Similar to FOREX. There are also handling and transportation fees. Dont even think of removing the metal from its plastic enclosure. The depreciates the value too.
>>
>>80052194

This.

And like a central bank, it would tempt people to manipulate the value of the bitcoin based not upon true demand for it or the size of the bitcoin economy.

Charts are utterly worthless, so is quant trading to be completely honest.

Bitcoin's volatility is simply a matter of early price discovery.

Cryptocurrencies are not fiat at all. The "crypto" in cryptocurrency is important. The cryptographic algorithms are mechanisms to ensure arbitrary devaluation cannot occur by any party under any circumstances. What you are left with is an incorruptible ledger of value.

Well murder them all or even better. Kill the internet and wipe all servers.
>>
>>80051912

Pretty much this.

As it stands the demand for bitcoins (and therefore its assigned value) comes to heavily from deep net drug markets.

I warn you not to invest to heavily as that's probably going to change when people realise that buying drugs in the mail from untraceable anonymous people is seriously fucking stupid.

I used to use them for weed, my wake up call was when some guy pressed DMT crystals into the bud and I tripped balls to the land of the dead.

Common misconception, the reason for that statistic being true is due to bitcoin tumbling used for Law Enforcement evasion.

They literally just trade bitcoins like for like 1000's of times between each true transaction.

That does not create value, though this practice is also true for most western currencies tbqhfamiliar.

Proof please? Anyone who follows the bitcoin ecosystem knows that its main users are chinese citizens holding it for capital flight or a hedge against the dying yuan.

The largest mining datacenters are also located in china due to it's cheaper electricity. Over the last 4 years, china has left the west in the fucking dust when it comes to bitcoin, and it makes sense why. In it's current form, bitcoin lends itself better to nations with capital controls or undevelopes financial services. The west already has decent financial services, albeit centralized ones, so bitcoin requires more infrastructure to be attractive to a wider userbase in the west.

If DB is soooo big and there's so much cross-party risk, I have a feeling that America will just heavily pressure Germany to bail it out, and possibly even itself assist. This will still be tremendously chaotic politically, but the financial can will still get kicked down the road a few more years.

What you aren't accounting for are the billions of human beings with no access to any form of financial services whatsoever, not even a bank account. With a $20 smartphone and a satellite connection, a poor farmer on africa can BE his own bank, get access to capital he never could have before, and increase his purchasing power by selling and paying for goods and services outside of his worthless national currency.
