Aside from the fees, it is the most gun friendly state I know of (but, seeing as you don't need to pay any to conceal carry, it's no big deal).
Rent is affordable, and, while the air craft industry has been in the gutter since 2001, there are plenty of well-paying jobs for people who want to work hard (one third of all electricians in the state retired in the past 3 years).
That said, the state government has run itself into the ground.

Not really. There's not much to do anywhere but Wichita, Salina, and Kansas City (although most of KC is actually in Missouri).
I know because I live here, but my opinion formed on its own. I've lived in Boston, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, West Virginia, Maryland, Nebraska, and Kansas, in that order.
Nebraska is also pretty good, but for some reason, while your electricity will be cheap (privately owned and openly competitive), the fucking rent is astronomical anywhere that isn't a small town (and by small, I mean SMALL, like 2k people being a densely populated small town).

I visit there for family reasons sometimes. The economy is blooming a bit more than the Texan economy at the moment, but their population is still puny compared to Texas. Their buildings look a bit older, but the people I've seen were happy enough. I'd say that kansas is like Texas, but with less people and, thus, less culture.

Good nature parks , not much night life outside of bigger cities , gun culture be awesome , good hunting grounds if you get farmers permission , but crime is kinda high in cities with a lot of sex traffic and sex crime.

I don't get the fascination. Even Wichita has Casinos now (ok, it's a little south, but still). Shy of that, when people say that there's more to do, all I think is that there are more ways to waste your time shopping, rather than just ordering something online.
I've got a Dillons here, as well as a Walmart (which doubles as my bank - seriously, check out the AMEX Bluebird; best bank I've ever had). Add amazon and ebay to the mix, and I've got everything I could ever want, and rent is only 400/month for a duplex with all wood floors, central heat/ac, attached garage, storage shed out back, included fridge, stove, garbage disposal, and dishwasher, and lawn care is taken care of by the land lord. Plus it's easier to go hunting/shooting.
I see no reason to live in one of the bigger towns.

Same , lived in L.A CA and while night life is awesome so was the food it sucked just because the people and crime.
Will say I'm a introvert and nature lover so edge of the city is OK but long term is get a house outside of Wichita. Just far enough so I set up my own range , farm and hunt but not to far I have to take hour long drives to get food and supplies. Nothing worse than "fuck I need eggs and cream cheese .... honey be back in 3-4 hours".

Yeah, it is usually the only blue section of the state during election time, and, of course, the University of Kansas is in Lawrence so you have all those young liberals. Lot's of nice country homes just outside Lawrence, so you can be within five - 10 miles of Lawrence but not have to live in its liberal land.
Like you, I am thnking of moving outside of KS just not sure where. Seems most of the USA has been pretty much destroyed so it is getting harder and harder to find a nice, safe, and affordable place to live. All the great cities have been destroyed.

Wellington does get them, but they are usually outside of the town proper, in the fields. I've spent a total of 6 years here, and never seen one. That said, we are known for getting some horrific storms. 70+mph winds during brutal thunderstorms that can leave some streets under water.
Kansas fucking sucks, but at least EVERYONE out here is conceal and carry now, so the nignogs don't pop off and they stay segregated to the north, or eastern KCMO.

Wichita here, comfy place to live and raise a family. Fairly cheap living, pretty much every basic convenience you could want from a big city without most of the problems. Our 'ghetto' is nothing compared to most cities. And we've got some of the hands-down best movie theaters in the world, assuming you're actually interested in the occasional show.
Lots of small to mid-sized towns all around as well, probably even cheaper comfy country living only a short drive from the city. Beautiful countryside, though I'm quite biased seeing it's my home state.
