What I am truly interested in, is if private finance is going to collapse in our times. Things could get so politically and economically unstable that free enterprise itself becomes unwound. (IE: The banks off themselves one by one and then none are left.)

Woe to us if that's the case.

Why would London still care about DB these days?

Goldman (and others) saddled DB with the illegal debt of Greece, Spain, Italy, and others through derivatives in order to set up German the bomb for when the EU would come apart.

SocGen is, or at least was, next in line.

Surriously though familia, I was at a Detroit homeless shelter. They threw away state-provided nutritious food, canned vegetables and white rice, straight to the trash (because part of the charity is restrictions on use and nobody was touching it); they save their begged money and walk the extra four blocks to Church's.
They trash perfectly good food -- at a shelter -- then spend what they begged on deep fried. Robert Downey Junior in jail moment right there.

DB is the largest German bank and one of the largest banks in the world. They got this big by investing in less than stellar places that other US/UK banks wouldn't touch. They are now saddled with bad loans and it is basically Europe's version of Lehman brothers, except instead of mortgages it is bad government debt (PIIGS). Germany through the EU has been gaving the central bank suppress interest rates so the governments can't default, but the problem is still there (zero growth, can't devalue currency).

Likely what will happen is the German government (and likely all EU member states) will bail out the bank. Whether or not it causes another Brexit remains to be seen. Germany certainly can bail it out if it needs to.

The German govt. is perfectly willing to be hypocritical and bail out DB

It's possible they'll soon let Italy break these rules so that that they themselves will be more able to with less backlash ('see we just let Italy bend the rules, please let us do it now')

If, for some reason, Germany cock-blocks Italy's efforts to save its banks, then turns around and saves its own, that could and probably would lead to massive backlash.

(EU rules, ie Germany's rules for everyone else, all but forbid govt. cash infusions into banking institutions to make them solvent)

73 Trillion in derivatives, and they're leveraged 40 to one. They're in worse shape than Lehman and they're much, much larger.

You're not going to be able to bail them out. The entire EU doesn't have the necessary GDP to fix this

>>
>>80035768
it'd be hypocritical for the reason I put in parenthesis

The German govt. has for years fought attempts at capital injection into struggling financial institutions, bailouts. In the case of the Irish, the Greeks, the Spaniards, and now the Italians. They simply have not allowed it to happen most of the time, through their de facto control of the EU. So for them to break with that and do it now, only because it's their own bank, would indeed be hypocritical.

Er yes, right now, this is a potential Happening in the next 48 hours.

The Italians (who have their own banking crisis) pulled a gun on DB yesterday. Either the Germans (effectively) bail them out out or the threat is, DB is goes down.

There are unconfirmed rumours Renzi was wearing a Bane mask at the time of issuing the statement.

>about the central bank
The ECB is the central bank. Deutsche Bank is a badly run bank (run by a Brit by the way) with 99% private investors.
-----
Deutsche Bank shares continue to be almost entirely in free float. Around 99% of the bank’s shareholders in 2015 were private investors. At the end of 2015, retail investors held 19% (2014: 20%) of the share capital, while institutional investors held 81% (2014: 80%) of the subscribed capital of € 3,530,939,215.36.
Overall, the number of shareholders declined in 2015 to 561,559 (2014: 599,320). This reflects the decline in the number of private shareholders in the reporting year. The regional distribution of share capital also shifted. According to the share register, the share capital held in Germany declined to 56% (2014: 57%). While the percentage held in the European Union excluding Germany rose to 22% (2014: 21%), the percentage held in Switzerland declined significantly to 4% (2014: 7%). The percentage of share capital held in the USA rose to 15% (2014: 13%), while the percentage held in the rest of the world declined to 3% (2014: 4%).
>>
>>80036685
>>80036685
Yes, but it's stranger than that.
Did Germany encourage a refugee influx to bolster GDP numbers so they looked good enough for the bailouts?

Not only is DB in trouble but Paschi is too, Italy is injecting money as we speak.
Germany is pushing for a EU army and it makes me wonder if they're not poising to go the same route America has and back their currency with threat of might.

This time the entirety of the EU will already be on their side.
Weird

yeah everything's going so swimmingly your head of state decided to teleport half of the Mid-east into your country hoping against hope that at least some of them will agree to be menial laborers and pay taxes

So, the Middle East has only 1 million people?

Between 1 Jan 2015 and 31 May 2016, we had 744,000 application for asylum, there were 575,000 decisions, thereof 284,000 positive decisions. Of the 284,000 positive decisions, 213,000 were granted to Syrians.

We will deport 100,000 this year and quite a lot will leave voluntarily, because their gibmees status will run out.
>>
>>80038395
>the stilted German literally can't recognize sarcastic hyperbole

oh shit, yes I do now realize that not literally half a sub-continent's population is in Germany. How foolish.

I do like to hear all news of impending deportations though, so that is genuinely a positive.

But the broad acceptance of 'economic migration' into any country is a bad sign of its health: it means it needs a fast infusion of taxpayers who may or may not actually ever see any of that tax money come back to them. Leaning on low-skilled labor is an ill omen, economically and socially (and just about every other kind of -ally). The US is more guilty of this than anyone else, so I'd know.

This. Automation is here:

>self-service checkouts at supermarkets
>self-order stations at fast food places
>self check-in at airports (even international)
>automated manufacturing is advancing in China and India
>self driving cars are in testing and almost ready for production.

Now is the absolute worst time to be bringing in low-skilled labour. The EU is really hoping their protectionist racket can hold up so they don't have to actually compete with Asia.
