I worked in a job where I interacted with the idle rich who indulge in a hedonistic lifestyle. None of them are happy or interested anymore in anything. They're also completely boring. Trying to talk to them is like talking to a brick wall because they never developed a personality.

Hedonism gives away the only control a man has in life, control of himself. Hedonism is to give in to excess and let everything around you rule you instead of the other way around. Pleasure, greed, etc. The opposite extreme is almost as bad, you loose all joy in life to exact ultimate control.
Only through temperance and moderation can man enjoy the world, yet still be in control of his own actions, and thus his own fate.

It's unfulfilling in the long run. Human beings are actually designed to struggle and suffer. It's part of what gives us a sense of purpose and accomplishment.
While these people are overindulging on luxuries, our enemies are training and getting stronger. I don't think hedonism is inherently bad, but there will always have to be a large group of people dedicated to protecting hedonists (The US Military in our case) for it to be viable, or else the entire nation will grow weak.
