I spent 7 months with Kurds in Iraq. They are probably the only middle-eastern people I would respect. Compared to everywhere else, there was a certain life about them not present anywhere else, you felt like you could trust them. They also support the west for the most part, and you won't find very many (if any) slimeballs in Kurd-land that will smile to your face, then stab you in the back.
Either way, when I was in Iraq at this time, going up north to "Kurdistan" was considered an actual vacation, even though it was still technically Iraq.
