The average IQ of many of those states (south/southwest especially) is dragged down by minorities. Also, population density is mostly higher in the blue states, which means that there will be more of a chance for higher IQ people. Besides, the difference is in the span of a few points, mostly too small to find a major difference (except for Northeast). Finally, (((intellectuals))).

Pretty sure that IQ data was calculated because one idiot decided to account for SAT participation rate (because if your state has fewer SAT takers, then the average score goes up). So it really understates states that use the ACT over the SAT as those with lower SAT participation rate are considered "stupider." I'm not quite able to find the report that does it, but everyone cites "Raven apt" or "IQ and the Wealth of Nations" instead of this actual retarded source.
