I don't know about ALL Sunnis today but I know for certain that the Wahhabi/Salafist Muslims (ie Saudi Arabia and the branches of Al Qaeda) do not recognise Shiites as muslims and consider them to be #1 enemy of Islam (they are heretics/apostates).
Shiites on a theological level don't recognise the difference between the Islamic sects and say it is all Islam but in practise it doesn't really end up this way obviously. I think the Shiite clergy have made 3-4 significant attempts to reconcile with the Sunnis and make compromises to get the Shia recognised as equal Muslims by the Sunnis. This meant going to the Caliphs of the past and petitioning but they always rejected it. I don't know of all attempts but I know Nader Shah of 18th century Persia suggested to the Caliph of the Ottoman Empire that the Shia will stop beating themselves bloody during Ashura (religious festival for Shias) and stop cursing the first four Caliphs (the Sunnis follow them but the Shias dont) and some other compromises on a theological level, but the Ottomans rejected the offer.

Also taqiyya has basically become a meme. Taqiyya hasn't been actively taught among Sunni scholars since Reconquista, which are 90% of muslims. The Shiites still teach the concept in places like Afghanistan and Pakistan. The standard concept of taqiyya is basically permission to hide your muslim identity to save your life. ie. someone puts a gun to your head and asks if you're muslim, forces you to masturbate on the Quran while eating alcohol marinated pork. It's a concept brought in from a single line in the Quran and it has had slightly different definitions and rules throughout history - for example, you still can't kill someone on the threat of death. Some fringe scholar said something about taqiyya being permission to deceive the non-believers for the agenda and the internet theologians ran with it. But it is essentially about doing what is necessary to protect yourself from immediate persecution and lie to someone who's about to harm you
