I lived with my single mother and two half-siblings in a series of shitty apartments for most of my adolescence, and AFDC was the bulk of our income. A lot of the food we ate came in plain white packages with black block-letter labeling that said things like "POWDERED MILK" or "DEHYDRATED POTATOES".
Though this kind of poverty was not exactly uncommon where I grew up, most of my peers were in the middle class, and I became very class-conscious very early in life, mostly in response to the taunts of my better-off peers. By middle school it was almost unbearable, but punk rock and skateboarding became very chic, and was a good subterfuge to mask poverty with (ripped jeans, army jackets, and so on).
After childhood, I went on to eventually complete a doctorate, and I'm now among the top 15% of income-earners in this country, better off than anyone I went to high school with, a fact I like to rub in their fat, divorced faces at reunions.
I'd never buy a Rolex or any other nigger-tier bauble, though. Gucci, Coach, all of that shit is for ghetto niggers.
This is odd for someone who grew up poor, but I have a real propensity to save, hoard even. I plan on retiring at 55, so I'm a little less-inclined to throw money away on nigger toys. I do vacation twice a year: once in Vale and once in the Keys.

I grew up really poor, but now I'm in a interventional radiology fellowship. I'm not very materialistic, I think my stipend / salary of 58,000 right now is a lot of money. I don't even know what I would I would do with all that money that some surgeons bring in. I don't like showing off, I do like to have a couple nice things, nice laptop and computer, phone, and good quality food.
For watches, I wear a 15 dollar Casio, thinking of getting an apple watch 2, but we'll see. For shoes, Dansko are a way of life if you work in healthcare, 60 dollar nikes work for days off. I like my knock off ray bans from that cost 15 dollars. That's just the way I like to live.

I only take cold showers, the toilets don't flush so you have to throw tons of water in the bowl manually so I have a large water tank next to the toilet filled with mosquito infested water. Sometimes the shower doesn't work so I have to wash with the water in that water tank lol eating is not a problem because food here is cheap, maybe not at a restaurant but street food is very cheap, so most people just eat there whether they are rich or poor. I'm honestly very comfortable with my situation, but I would never have a wife or family while being poor. I think that would be miserable.
