But even tough the Coliseum is but a skeleton of its former self, when it was completed it was the biggest amphitheater in the world,. capable of even holding sea battle performances, and nothing of this size was ever built since.

IT was used as a rock quarry for buildings in Rome. It was meant to be a functional building, it's a big stadium more or less, it was not meant to withstand 2000 years . The piramids were not functional(tin foil hat off) and we're meant to probably withstand eternity.

The pyramids are essentially glorified rock piles to be looked at, while the Colosseum is a functioning arena trafficked by millions of people for hundreds of years.
Pyramids are step one in archetecture, when you don't know how to build you build wide and sturdy...you copy a mountain.
