Been 7 months since I used strangebook. The best way is to change your password, write a new one in notepad consisting of random letters and numbers you're never going to remember, copy paste in the new password field and log out.
You might be tempted to do a Forgot Password to log back in, just don't do it, you don't need that account anymore. Contact Facebook and tell them to delete your information from their storage afterwards.
It's been very beneficial for me. Before, I would put off my studies and be on my phone checking facebook constantly, even if I was with my friends hanging out. Now, I have more time for my friends, my schoolwork, my girlfriend and my family, and I have no regrets.

OP I had the same concerns as you. I was worried about missing out on party invites and friend updates.
I deleted it 4 years ago and the people who mattered stayed in touch and I am happier without it. I found myself getting depressed seeing how everybody appeared to be having a great time in life (vacation pictures etc). But the reality is all the picture sharing and other shit is a big circle jerk.
