The Iraq war wasn't ever about 9/11. It was about a lie that they were developing nuclear weapons. And actually because Saddam Hussein was being recalcitrant and a tyrannical dickhead.
Most of the people killed in Iraq were killed after the actual Iraq war was over, in the massive cluster fuck police operation of trying and temporarily succeeding in reducing organized islamist extremist paramillitary activity in the region. Then Obango gave 50 million guns to a disloyal new Iraqi army and they turned into another islamist extremist paramilitary. Or arguably just regular military sense they're sort of a country.

You recall this guy named Saddam Hussein? FOrmer murderous dictator in Iraq, loved a good terrorist (though not known to have had any involvement with 9/11 attacks) and known to have used poisonous gas (WMDs) on his own people when they wouldn't kiss his ass hard enough.
He was under UN sanctions and inspection requirements, which he refused to honor, These were intended to make sure such an insane asshat was not building atomic weapons.
When he refused to allow the rerquired UN inspections, he got his shit pushed in because, ina post 9/11 world, people in the US and at the UN were not thrilled with a murderous dictator who liked terrorists possibly developing nukes.
After the war, sifting through the wreckage, he either managed to destroy/offload all that shiut, or he never was really doing it but tried his hardest to act like he was, to keep his military dick at maximum hugeness in the eyse of his fellow crazy asshats.
He tried to make the world think he was developing nukes, and gambled that nobody would do anything about it. He gambled wrong.
