It's really inevitable though.
The population explosion in Africa is at the heart of this - both in terms of "immigrants" washing over the whole planet and superbugs becoming a problem.
When overpopulation occurs, nature culls the population. This is a basic rule, and we aren't exempt. I would expect more of this sort of thing to happen in the coming decades, and on a wider scale.
