Because most modern British politics has been centralist for so long people have forgotten what real left and right are, and think any slight bias to either side is some kind of extreme.
Their manifesto for the last GE was pretty much just the Conservative manifesto +grammar schools +ending tuition fees for STEM, and some other minor things.

UKIP are considered right-wing because they threw together a manifesto that was libertarian that was totally irrelevant because they are a one issue party. They have many left wing people voting for them as well. They even eat into the traditional labour vote.

They're not Libertarian but they are centre right, they're more left wing than the Conservatives are and that's why they appeal to the old Labour vote.
They're economically both libertarian and socialist.
Right libertarian as they like to get the tax man off of the middle income/self employed. Plus they're not a big supporter of masses of welfare.
Their socialist in a sense they like the NHS and national rail.
Other than that, they're pretty nationalist.
It's called National Conservatism. Much less authoritarian than National Socialism, and more economically right wing than National Socialism.
