a LFTR( Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor ) is a form of a Molten Salt Reactor, which is INHERENTLY safer than the current water based pressurecooker.
Rather than using high atmospheric pressure, an MSR using high heat.
Using this high-heat method, passive safeties can be installed that CAN NOT fail, unless the laws of physics stop existing.
Because of this, if we start developing MSR platforms now, we can have much safer nuclear reactors in a matter of years, and not to mention that it will completely use up all the material you put in it, rather than only using a fraction and leaving a bunch of waste material you cannot use, such as in the conventional PWRs ( pressurized water reactors ).
If we wanna have lots of energy in space, thorium is the most cost-efficient way to do it.
