My son is 3 1/2.
He's allowed to play games and watch TV, but some stuff I don't allow. I play games and watch TV, no reason to go extreme-mode on him, otherwise when he is older and able he will get completely addicted. It's like a kid who isn't allowed to have cakes and sweets will absolutely demolish that shit later in life. Better to teach him moderation.
I read to him every night. We go hiking together, he can walk a couple miles every other day. He climbs trees, and lifts weights with me. We play rough, and he already has great respect and understanding of weapons. I leave my guns out and he wont touch them. I leave my knives out and he wont touch them. I didn't even need to use violence to discipline him to leave them alone, I just expressed their importance and danger. I don't use spanking much, or even yell much, because finding ways for him to understand his behavior and internalizing the better behavior through that understanding works so much better.
I teach him to use small knives and axes, and I have him do yard work in the woods, like carrying firewood.
My wife has the better career opportunities so I am a stay at home Dad, with a landscaping side business. I will be homeschooling my son. We already work on education every day, and practical education like cleaning a fish you've just caught, slaughtering pigs from our pig farm, etc.
He works around the house and yard for an allowance already and we've taught him to save money for big purchases rather than waste it on little shit.
When he is older I will introduce him to more serious concepts but right now and for a long time he couldn't comprehend them if he tried. Growing up is confusing.
It's hard. We have no family support, because we have no family and we came from poverty. Raising a child, playing the game modern society, it takes it's toll. We refuse government aid and just work hard.
