The thing is, the EU referendum was used as a proxy to win a second Scottish Independence referendum.
Salmond and Sturgeon spoke about what would happen if England voted to leave and Scotland voted to remain for a LONG time before the vote.
This meant that the pro-Independence part of the population voted en masse for Remaining in the EU. You have then probably got an even split between Remain and Leave from the pro-UK part of the population.
An independent Scotland would NOT get the same deal that the UK had in the EU. Also, one of the key issues for voters in England, immigration, would eventually become an issue in Scotland, as the country would receive a high amount of migrants that it's currently protected from due to England.
This whole thing is dreadful for the UK and it's dreadful for Scotland but I'm not sure anything can be done about it. Feels like the end is nigh.
