How come the British hate Polish immigrants so much? The Poles fought bravely in WWII. They are hard workers---they take crap (literally) jobs that no one else wants, are never thanked, but continue to keep their head bowed and move forward. They are fun to drink with, and in general, they have a gregarious personality.

I think it's tremendously sad that the Polish of all people are being targeted, but it's probably because they make up the majority of the visible presence of immigrants in the UK. My experience of Poles has been entirely positive. I live in a slightly run down area and there are a lot of Polish families that live around here. Even the single 30 something Polish lads that squat around drinking beer I have no problem with because they work during the day, they don't make too much noise and they are always bringing the banter when I walk my dog around the area they hang out. All of the Poles my family have employed for work have worked very hard and for less than the average Brit. They're white, mostly Christian, share our values, and though they speak Polish amongst themselves, they speak very decent English, or at least try.
Nobody should be attacking the Poles in the UK imo. I love the Poles.

You're right that the number of jobs is not a constant, and that more people does mean more stuff to do, but it is not an infinite number either, nor does higher population immediately mean more paid jobs. With a rapid and unchecked rise in population, the number of people looking for work can and does outstrip the available positions. It takes time for things to settle into place.
