I noticed it around 2010. More and more people started using Facebook, started having regular access to the internet. Smartphones started giving regular access to people who don't even understand the basics behind computer networking.
As the years went on, more and more of the normies and kids started invading space where we once roamed free.
Facebook was the gateway drug. Then once practically everyone had access they stayed.
Now think about this for a second. In society young kids, teens, or even adults who had mental disorders were not praised for them. If a 15 year old boy was saying he identified as a girl back then he would be ostracized, bullied, and shunned. Heavily reducing the toxic thoughts to a few mentally ill.
Now you have tumblr, twitter, and so on that are cesspools of the filth, where these "people" come together and find others who have the same "thoughts". Instead of reasserting the fact that they are out of place or retarded, others like them comfort and breed stupidity. Not only does this cesspool suck in these lost souls, but they are grabbing onto children and teens that are easily impressionable.

It's genuinely hard to imagine the internet pre-Youtube at this point, even though we all used it before 2005.

Sometimes it feels like 4chan is one of the last bastions when it comes to what the older days of the internet were like.
No social media competitive shit, everyone is anonymous and even sharing IRL info is often shunned, everyone is willing to share their craziest opinions and views, no doting around certain controversial issues and topics... I hope it remains that way for a while. It still sort of has, despite what influence twitter, reddit and tumblr have had on the site. Hell I can't see myself leaving any time soon because of it; I respect its views and purpose too much.

Dunno about the internet, but I always get a kick out of people getting mad about SJWs trying to ruin video games, when video games have been dumbed down to get as much money as possible from casuals. Not even casuals really, but the CSGO/CoD crowd, the still playing retail WoW when it stopped being remotely good 8 years ago people, etc.
