I've smoked my fair share of marijuana, so I can explain a bit.
Most people who are leftists these days are young people, we're talking 13-30 year olds and a lot of them have experienced smoking marijuana when they were middle school/junior high.
They know that marijuana is illegal and they want to smoke it without getting busted by the cops, so they look for people who are advocating the legalization of marijuana, those advocates are typically leftists.
Then they meet with other people that enjoy marijuana, and these people will probably be a little older, and these older people have been sucked into the 60s counter-culture of anti-establishment, listening to Sublime and The Beatles religiously because "that's what pot heads do".
Now that the younger kids are pretty much indoctrinated by their older peers, they too will emulate the 60s counter-culture. What was part of the 60s counter-culture? Pretty much the leftist ideology you see today.
I too was once a part of this subculture, but the open-minded person I really am was seeing that the people I was with were not really open-minded regardless of how much they say they are, it was simply an echo chamber of their ideas and thoughts. Then I got this idea and ideology can be inbred to the point of non-sense if you are constantly exposed to it, and living in Washington's Seattle area, I'm exposed to it on a daily basis. Afterwards I started listening to more conservative ideology to strike a balance, after all it seems nobody wants to debate, just shit talk about each other, and /pol/ is no exception to this, but at least it's conservative which is why I'm here.
The answer to your question? Pot heads want to be with other pot heads and talk about how great they are because they gave a fucking dollar to a charity and they simply don't care for anybody that aren't themselves and their selfish desire to get high at the expense of people with cancer. I started smoking just before I turned 18. I studied it extensively and I still do. I'm probably ADD to some degree because when I'm sober I find it easier to focus on like 3 things at a time than just one. Cannabis stops that and stopped my anxiety and depression immediately. After vaporizing .3g I can focus on as much or as little as I want and I get far more done in an hour than I could sober in the same time.
Cannabis is an enhancer. Different strains and Indica/Sativa/Hybrid obviously throw in their own effects, but for the most part it just brings out the characteristics that already exist in you. Lazy dumb criminal pieces of shit will become more so on weed. Active, intelligent, nondegenerates will be more so on weed.

When I was smoking weed - I was starting to shape up an very tolerant - lefist ideology over my head, but then suddenly trough weed I discovered the beauty of socialism and I was in love with it - until after I quit weed, I started to study it more rationally.
Now I think nothing of any ideology but what I insist on is that people should receive a liberal education - every single human on earth.
The problem with smoking pot is that it stupefies you every time, which makes it more difficult to use your reason to understand the truth. You can drink alcohol without being stupefied. Personally, I am always mentally coherent no matter how much alcohol I have drunk, but pot disturbs my thought process and makes me feel agitated and paranoid at all doses.
