Kek, I may be isolated from my local community. But that is because my local community has been destroyed over years of progressive policies. My once vibrant town is nothing more than a hollowed out shell of poverty, abandoned buildings, homelessness and just general flight to other areas, even though the problems have been spreading.
But like I said, connections through local communities aren't important anymore. Internet communities and online connections are growing instead to be the preeminent way humans engage with each other.
Most people don't even know their own neighbors anymore; however, they can tell you with uncanny accuracy what celebrities, online figures, and friends they have through those connections are doing with their lives and how they are spending time together.
The issues of disconnection from people and the isolation some feel on here are just products of the general shift toward the internet being are primary source of connection. It's growing pains, but as more people hope online, and more things we engage with are connected, the more importance and normalized it will all become.
