The point is more than the "law" of the new covenant is spiritual instead of strictly materially based. The old covenant law was about circumcision and physical punishment and sanitation. The new covenant has baptism instead of circumcision (a mark of the flesh), forgiveness instead of material retribution, and is concerned with spiritual cleanliness instead of physical cleanliness, see Matthew 15:11. So the "law" of the new covenant is not organized into a refined code that can be referenced, like the old law, it's a law that is of the heart; you don't have to memorize it. Once you grasp the basics of Christianity, it becomes fairly simply to know whether x is Christian or not.

Been brushing up on Church history and I really don't know how to feel about the absolute babarity of the popes. I mean some of the history you wonder if the popes had any belief system at all to temper their conscience. I mean the disrespect towards God was flagrant.

Additionally if you believe in Christian theism, then demons and objective evil are probably a part of your worldview.

I always interpreted this as the explanation of conscience and morality.
From a Christianity standpoint God is good. So any "good" from a moral standpoint would stem objectively from God. So the laws of God would in theory be written in the hearts of all sentient beings.
