The beer industry seems to really be stuck in the past when beer in the US was primarily mass produced so that's the image of American beer.

Microbreweries have really elevated US beer to the top of the world as far as I'm concerned. At that level, there is no best beer, just what beer flavor you like.

Haven't had anything from Anchor. I see it all the time, however I tend to avoid anything from California. I try to buy local. Not just country local, but state local as well. In state micros tend to be much cheaper and much fresher. Plus, there's nothing like supporting local industry. Anyone who thinks supporting small, local business is a "hipster" and "fedora" thing to do is a cuck, especially considering that "American" macros aren't even truly American anymore.

That said, I noticed you've recommended Samuel Smith in this thread. One of my go to import brews. Blows my mind that I can pick up bombers of Sam Smith and it tastes fresher than beer imported from Mexico, which always tastes skunked to me. Fuck Mexican beer.

I do have a few favourite Yank breweries, and speaking of the small independent ones, I've found that Sixpoint over in NY are making serious waves over here.

Do you have any ones I should be on the look out for?

Kind of, but it's more novelty.
When I visited Canada, in the town I was staying in, they had a shop that sold British imports called Creature Comforts.
It originally started off to let expats have a few little things to help them feel less homesick, but it turned into a booming business because it helped shake off the chains of "BUT BRITISH FOOD IS BAD".

People were going fucking mental for it.

Seeing Americans enjoying proper British ales makes me so happy and proud to be friends.

I'll never forget the time I took an American visitor to a proper English pub.

Ale on tap, smoking room, snooker table, everyone with a great story to tell.
He loved the proper English Northern culture.
