A lot of these opiate users are basically chronically depressed people in the US "rust-belt" from my understanding. Primary industry and manufacturing there has been gutted by various free trade agreements.
The US decided to basically fuck its manufacturing base up in the 1990s because the cucks in Silicon Valley sold a line that we don't need industry if we have software instead, and that software was the future.
The problem with this idea is that software only really creates small numbers of jobs for high-IQ people, i.e. developers. It's not like manufacturing where, even in the capital intensive stuff that Japan does, you need a shitload more manpower to actually get stuff done.
That and software industries aren't national assets like capital intensive manufacturing because software is so easily replicateable.
