Hell, in the Eastern Orthodox faith (I am Catholic, just to disclose), some theologians actually theorize that Hell and Heaven are the SAME place - those with a pure heart enjoy God's presence, those full of hate and malice and selfishness find it excruciating. Because Christians scholars don't provide essential proof for the thing. They interpret the bible, which is great. Your interpretation of the bible may be the most learned interpretration in existence because you studied all the greats.
Thus, you may have the best understanding of what is meant by hell in the bible, and what is meant by eternal suffering, or what is meant by the divinity of Christ, or whatever else have you.
But being an atheist doesn't arise from having a faulty understanding of the INTERNAL mechanics of religion. It arises from being skeptical that the original source should be taken as fact in the first place.
All those scholars you're referring to took the bible as a fact and interpretted it with great intellectual seriousness, but that doesn't verify the foundation of the belief, which virtually owes its unverifiability and unfalsifiability to the efforts of those scholars.
Give me one good reason why I should believe that the bible itself is the genuine article, a text directly inspired or transcribed by God, and then your case for why its various interpretations should be leant credence might hold weight.

The Bible - especially the New Testament - has some of the strongest manuscript evidence of any document contemporary to it. We have more reason to believe the Bible than we do Julius Caesar's Gallic Wars. The issue, for atheists, are the miracles. "Miracles can't happen." Which is true, they can't. The Apostles. Pretty much every historian (you can probably find cucked, tenured modern ones who will disagree) agrees the Apostles existed. Look at how they died. Crucified, beheaded, tortured. Why would they do this for a lie? "But anon! Look at Muslim jihadis! They die for their faith all the time!" This is different. The Apostles are the ones who were proclaiming that Christ had risen, they were the ones spreading the "lie." They (claimed) to have empirical evidence that Jesus rose again, and they died, brutally, to pass that on. One has to ask themselves why.
Science and history are proving the Bible. People used to laugh at Genesis saying man was made from dirt, but then our understandings of geology and biology proved that the Earth is mostly carbon and that life on Earth is carbon-based. Historians used to claim King David was merely a mythical Arthurian figure, but then archaeologists started finding his name everywhere. These are just a couple of examples. Yes, you have your bad translations, your unicorns and sea-dragons in the KJV, but the minor details of the Bible are being proven as our knowledge grows, not disproven.
As a Catholic, I would also say, don't focus too much on "the Bible." The Bible is a great gift from the Holy Spirit, and rightfully has a high place in all forms of Christian worship, including the Catholic Mass, but as you note ,it means little to a non-Christian. I would look as well to the Early Church, how they lived and died.
