Not really, you have to pay a bottle deposit charge when you buy beer here in NY.

Liberals like it, but they're too cucked to admit the real reason. It completely eliminates litter because the homeless pick up bottles and return them for alcohol money.
When you think of it as a tax to clean up litter, I'm alright with it. I'll pay a little more so there's not garbage everywhere.

When I first left home, was sixteen, broke and living on my brother's couch, his girlfriend would take me out in the morning and we'd collect cans from her friends and family members house, and go turn them all in, and then we would have enough money to not be able to afford a box of macaroni and instead buy some bagels from the bakery. I always said it was total bullshit when NY enforced a deposit tax, but that's Jew York for you. All the while, hobos with shopping carts pick them up off the side of the road to make a living, and al the Jew York Jews think that's just great.
I live in a non-deposit state and we just pay city taxes to pick them up for recycling. Or at least that's what decent people do.

Where I live the machines to get the deposit are such a hassle it's literally not even worth my time to get $0.60 back on a trip to the store. Now that curbside recycling is a thing, the original stated goal of using the deposit to encourage recycling has been made obsolete; but again, that's not why the program is useful anyway.

So what I observed was college students drinking beer and middle aged white people who didn't look high or drunk, begging them for their empties.
