Look at the Manchu race. If we look at genetics, they number anywhere between 6-15 million depending on whether we count someone who is 1/4 Manchu as a Manchu.
Only 100 people in China speak Manchu in any capacity. An overwhelming majority of Manchus have taken up Han Chinese names, Han Chinese culture and Han Chinese language. Half these ethnic Manchus don't even know they're Manchu!
