Indeed, Europe is small. The US has put in quite an effort of protecting national parks and luckily hasn't cut down all of their forests. I hope Brazil can manage to free itself from the clasp of the corporate stranglehold and protect its environmental assets.
And in terms of politics - even if the US of A would not exist, a close economic and political cooperation would develop naturally among the states due to the proximity..
