Marxism, Bolshevism, etc. - is all of it garbage?
I don't particularly mean with regards to ruling a state since that seems to not be successful, but is there anything actually insightful in socialist writings? Recommendations pls.

It's not voluntary exchange like in capitalism, by which I mean it cannot work without a feudal network of oppression. The people then become peasants in the hands of communist party secretaries of various levels who have absolute power. We are kind of still being run with the same mentality, unfortunately. Countries to the east are even worse, they live under neo feudalism.

The Soviet state was an army with a country. It spent almost all its resources on those rockets and other military technology. Considering that it wasn't such a big achievement.

They spent a lot on those rockets because they were crucial for getting nuclear ICBMs to be able to strike US and thus survival. And it wasn't even that big expenditure comparatively. US also spent tons of money on NASA at the time.

Suffice to say that 2/3 casualties were civilians and the military deaths aren't much higher than the total axis casualties on the eastern front. I'm not in the mood to argue with a butthurt beltian but that's besides the point. The point is we were still first in space after sustaining huge losses.
Some of the social/cultural theories and writings of Marx & Engels are quite intriguing and insightful. Also, Marxist frameworks to understanding social phenomena can be useful from time to time (ultra economic/material focus).
