In Mexico it is basically a caste system with whites at the top, mestizos in the middle, and indios at the bottom. Nobody openly says this, but it is just the way things are run. There are white Mexicans, both living there and born there. Some of my children are Mexican since they were born in Mexico. (I am one of those Mormons who lived in Northern Mexico)
That said - this is the issue that Pol has.
Mexicans view themselves as white if they are mostly white. Americans view whites as 100% white, or at least, not showing any native or black features. So we see Mexicans who are darker then any southern Italian saying they are white.
So yes, we are well aware their are white mexicans, my kids are blonde and blue eyed, including the ones born in mexico. Just that most white mexicans have good lives in mexico, and we see a lot of mexicans with high amounts of native or other blood in them.

I don't estimate "white" Mexicans to be any bigger that 10% of general population. Usually not seen on streets but if u go to exclusive places like golf courses, fancy restaurants, almost everyone looks white, blond/brunette green/blue eyed.
