Alicia Keys is spreading her message on World Refugee Day in cinematic fashion with the premiere of her powerful new short film, “Let Me In”.
“I was stunned when I learned that there are more refugees living in the world today than at any other point in history, and half of them are children,” Keys said in press release. “Creating this film really allowed us to imagine, what if we were the refugees? What if we were the ones torn from the arms of our families and loved ones? How would it feel if this were happening to us?”
Keys plays a mother of two in the 12-minute film, which imagines Los Angeles as a war zone from which she and her children must escape. The family of three absconds to Mexico, which is safe from the violence, but some Mexicans are protesting against the acceptance of American refugees.

As for the AK-47 remark, Keys said Tuesday that AK-47 is a nickname given to her by friends “as an acronym for Alicia Keys and a metaphor for wowing people with my music and performances, ‘killing ’em dead’ on stage. There's actually a pretty great story about that, happened last summer in Pakistan.
There were huge floods in the mountainous rural areas, destroyed complete villages and smaller settlements. Both Muslim and Christian ones.
Pakistani government and the Red Crescent as well as other Muslim aid organization were pretty quick in manning a humanitarian effort and sending it to those people to give them food, fresh water, medicine, shelter etc.
Only they didn't give it to all those people, they only gave it to Muslims. Botht the government as well as the aid organization refused to aid Christians in any way, shape or form, demanding that they convert instead.
Mind you, these weren't refugees who didn't belong there. They were tax paying citizens of Pakistan. Still they wouldn't get anything.
In the end in order to not starve, die of thirst or freeze to death the Christians had to make agreements with rich Muslim families. They would be taken in, clothed and fed, but had to sign themselves into indentured servitude.
They had to become slaves to survive because their own government wouldn't help them.
