I don't believe in "A Captain must go down with his ship" but I do believe that a Captain is in charge of their ship until it's beyond recovery and every possible action has been taken to save the passengers. On Titanic the officers were only told to leave once the wireless stopped working and once every lifeboat had been launched.

This would go on, accumulating one person at a time by a vote of those already selected, until we have fifty.
The purpose: to find out what sort of case each person would make for themselves. People who nag, feign weakness, threaten, try to put us under "obligation", or try other manipulative tactics would show themselves pretty quickly. (A lot of people who do these things have trouble seeing that it's detrimental to them, so I'm not worried about them having the self-awareness to hide it until the election is over.) These people would be detrimental to a survival effort, and the people who are picked for survival would likely see that. (I could, of course, huddle with them to explain what I'm doing privately.)
So I would not do it based on gender, though if it ultimately yielded the same results, I wouldn't pay any mind to it.
