This worries me. I read conflicting information on this subject. Some people talk about distilled water leaching minerals out of your body, others say that's total nonsense. Some people add the electrolytes back in after distillation, others say distilled water is the best water you can give your body and the extra minerals are superfluous because we already get them from food.
I really just want to get the fluoride out. I've been drinking bottled water without fluoride for years but switched to tap because I hate carrying 24 packs of water to my apartment. I feel foggy and the water doesn't quench my thirst as well. It could just be placebo but I don't care, I want that toxic garbage out of my water. Reverse osmosis seems to involved and expensive. Distillation is an energy-intensive process so doing it in the wild isn't really feasible unless you're talking about solar stills which probably produce barely enough water to keep you alive each day. Very few serious aquarists use straight dechlorinated tap water as a base for any aquarium. I do think the issue is largely to do with companies knowing this is all shit but not being willing to hurt profits. They know alternatives aren't as economical (at least to start with) and cost potentially billions to develop.
