I don't care if congressmen are against the ban, I expect differing opinions. The thing that they should be hung for, is not being willing to vote.

>Please stop calling the assault rifle used in Orlando&Newtown the"AR-15". It is the M-16 weapon we used in Vietnam, modified 4 civilian use.— Michael Moore (@MMFlint) June 15, 2016

>Ammo used in AR-15/M-16 is banned by Geneva Convention. It enters the body, spins & explodes. Show the crime scene photos & the NRA is over.— Michael Moore (@MMFlint) June 15, 2016

>Any guy who had shop class in high school can change a semi-automatic gun 2 fully automatic in 5min. 4 million "AR-15"/M-16 guns in US homes— Michael Moore (@MMFlint) June 15, 2016

Is he really this stupid or is he just dishonest?

I watched his film bowling for columbine yesterday after the Orlando shooting, looking to gain more insight on the issue of gun control.

Needless to say his documentary really swayed me towards thinking a ban on guns is necessary in our country. Or at the very least a ban on assault/automatic weapons.

Thoughts on this or Bowling of Columbine?

>>77324424
based Michael Moore
it's been years he tries to make America better
he was always right
daily mass shootings, gun companies getting richer and richer, 93 deaths by firearms everyday, bigots asking for more and more deaths
best thing to do is to take a strong stance, pro-gun politicians are weak, their response to all problems: more guns, more violence, that's what our God wants and we need to feed our God.
Americans shall revolt and take back the political power out of those demons.

All I ask of you is this:
please provide a valid reason that untrained civilians should be able to own assault rifles.

I'm on the fence, really. Don't mention the second amendment - you and I both know that the weapons technology of the 1700s could not predict so much as a hint of something as deadly as a Kalashnikov.

Then it follows that there is no need for such weapons, and a ban is appropriate. Seeing as that weapons are, according to you, objective tools, getting rid of them can offer no negatives.

They have better things to do than vote for something because the populace is to uneducated to understand that a hunting rifle and an AR-15 are no different.

>>77328730
In both cases, licenses are revoked. Such licenses are issued after proving one's knowledge and training in the field of question.

I would support a training and licensing program for assault rifles.

It really is about preventing monopoly of force.

And I'm sorry, but the 1st Amendment couldn't predict the internet, so should free speech -which is also potentially 'dangerous'- be limited?

Our armament must be similar to that of our governors to prevent them from becoming masters; protection of family and property aside.

These rifles account for such a small portion of actual crimes or even murders, it is ridiculous to even focus on this. People against semi-automatic weapons seem to think that the only time someone gets killed is during a mass shooting; it's a sliver of the actual violent crime in this country.

We have a society which, as a whole, is violent and aggressive towards each other. Fire arm deaths and mass shootings are a symptom, not a cause.

If I ACTUALLY wanted to kill any number of people, I can't even picture myself using my AR15, or my AK47, honestly. Building and detonating an explosive is just as easy, and much faster, and I have the option of escaping the blast if my intent is not to go down with the event.
>>
Why did Michael moore get so old all of a sudden? He looks like he is in his late 70s damn
>>
>>77328440
Jefferson had a rifle with a 20 round magazine capable of fast firing. The founding fathers weren't stupid.
>>
>>77324424

.....Angry that he was born irreparably fat and unattractive young Michael sat with glassy eyes staring at the other tall, strong, attractive boys in his gym class. He made up his mind that one day he would tear it all down on them. If he could never be happy then nobody else could be. It just wasn't fair. He hurried to get dressed in the locker room after gym. Getting his pants on and zipping his fly up so quickly he'd have zipped his penis off if it weren't but 3 inches... ensuring it would always clear the zipper on his soft jeans. He rushed out and down the hallway first stopping at the cafeteria pretending it was his lunch period he kept his head down hoping he would not be caught and sent away like last time. After spending the money he had stolen from his mothers purse on pasta and cookies he ambled away from the cafeteria and came to the door of the Audio Video club. Here is where he would make his stand against everything those happy boys in his gym class stood for. He set his food up next to the editing deck and got to work. The keys on the editing board were sticky from weeks of eating in there. The room also smelled of old chocolate milk. He lifted a leg and let out a warm fart which he let travel up to his nose and inhaled while closing his eyes in a moment of bliss. He was editing a video of the school football team for homecoming. But it wasn't going to be THEIR video. It was going to be HIS video. He was going to show just how bad of a team his school had and just how unfair it was to its players. He cued up his microphone for his voice over....

why does michael moore get to decide the law instead of the voting public
>>
>>77329046
The Internet is text and 2D visual representations, both of which existed then.
A gun which puts out dozens of bullets a minute, as opposed to a single shot musket ball, did not.
Building a bomb requires energy and foresight that most killers don't have. An impulsive buy for one weapon to take out a large amount of people is much more convenient for a mentally unstable person.
Our weapons cache could never rival that of the American military. Such a threat is fantastical in the least, unless, say, the police force becomes more militarized. (Ironically this is something I've heard a few pro-gun folks be in favor of!)

I'm still on the fence. Thanks for your input, though.

Also, to answer the common question of 'permitting' and 'licensing': This is a slippery slope and dangerous prospect. You are basically giving the government -whom civilian firearm ownership is a last resort control for- the ability to decide who does and does not have the un-infringed right to own that means of control. See what I mean?

Denying them to people who commit crimes against the people is reasonable, hence why we conduct background checks. But if the government commits crimes -and oh boy does it commit them- who reigns them in, and how? It's supposed to be us. All of us.

I would bet they are complicit in so many criminal actions and wrongdoings that the most outspoken conspiracy theorist would probably be speechless. Every now and then someone 'whistleblows' some shit like PRISM or an ongoing torture scheme. But if we catch occasional glimpses and this is what we see, then what is the full extent of their crimes?

How can one sleep at night knowing that they are physically powerless against them?

I already have trouble sleeping because of our general societal acceptance that this is 'leadership', and that we are to accept a choice between two sides of the same coin.

The only two things countering this sentiment for me are:

1. I live outside of the urban centers of surveilance, thought control, influence and confinement;
and
2. I can hopefully pass this lifestyle, and an arsenal, on to offspring or an adoptive child, to steward it until such a day that perhaps all of it can proliferate and take root ideologically.

I am essentially a caretaker; we've lost the present chance for action, I think.

>Our weapons cache could never rival that of the American military. Such a threat is fantastical in the least, unless, say, the police force becomes more militarized. (Ironically this is something I've heard a few pro-gun folks be in favor of!)

Well, from here we get in to the long-drawn argument of guerilla warfare, sabotage, and defection of military units who refuse to fire on their countrymen.

It's been played out a thousand times on this board, I've posted about it extensively and I'm tired of doing so.

Honestly I'm just tired in general. I'm tired of paying taxes for the treatment we get. Tired of worrying about the future and seeing how its developing.

I spend my nights worrying over whether to have children or not, and I spend my days working to hopefully be able to retire on to an adequate cruising sailboat...so I don't have to worry about any of this any more.

I wonder if in the 1800's, anyone walked into a school with two pistols and shot the place up. I highly doubt it.

It's not modern guns that are crazy, it's the people.

I've done some local stuff. This year I contributed quite a bit by educating voters to prevent a Fire District from raising its tax levy (I was a career firefighter for a number of years and still work in public safety; fire departments are useless in most locales, mine especially).

I write letters. I post here because I have some notion I can change peoples minds. There's no point in gun activism here because we have a strong gun culture.

Other than that, I dunno man. Shit's exhausting. Democracy really just amounts to half of the population trying to force their ideals and way of life on to the other half, saying its for their own good. It just seems more and more insane the more I think about it. Knowing what I know now, I would not want to grow up as the current generation. Corruption is high, abuse and intrusions only get worse, and economic prospects are grim. We are increasingly socially isolated; I grew up in the golden age of video games (late 90s, early 2000s) and was surrounded by top-end technology, but frankly virtual reality terrifies me.

It's all just fucking bad. But everyone wants everything I just mentioned. They're hungry for it. Who am I to deny them? Really, I'm doing us all a favor trying to expatriate.

I know this feels. I'm fucking tired of it too.

Work hard...never break the law...pay all my taxes...turn on the TV and apparently i'm a racist. Apparently I'm to blame for muslim anger and extremism. Apparently I'm a fucking misogynist.

Go to the store everyone behind the counter is a minority and they treat me like shit. Many of the stores in my town that use to have white staff are all mexican and many of them charge me more money for things because I'm white. My sandwich cost almost 2 dollars more then the mexican guy getting the same thing. Cant complain always get the run around and don't want spit in my sandwiches. Hold door for girl on my way out of the store and get scowled at like I'm a rapist.

Turn on TV...candidate wants to make america great again. I know its mostly marketing but I identify with his message. He says he's going to put american jobs first. He says he is going to fix the border. He says he is going to take drastic measures to ensure americans are safe from terrorism. He isn't dangling socialism over my head. He isn't dangling diversity over my head. He isn't dangling his race or sex over my head like some kind of gimmick. I believe he is sincere when he says he wants to fix things that decades of career politicians have gotten us to except as inevitable and unavoidable. I know he is lied about constantly and pulled through the mud for saying we need to stop being so politically correct. But I also know its the truth and so do most americans even if they are too afraid to speak up.

I register to vote. For the first republican I have ever voted for because fuck the left and fuck what they did to this country and fuck barrack obama and fuck black lives matter and fuck illegal aliens burning american flag and calling us racist and fuck the broken universities indoctrinating young people and fuck feminist calling me a cis male and telling me to dismantle my privilege. Fuck them all.

Watched it some years ago.

While it brought up a few valid points it ultimately fails to make the case for its thesis - that the problem is the availability of guns and the prevalence of pro-gun culture in the United States as opposed to high crime rates and sensationalist media.
