Shoulda asked the gun club boomers to help him out a bit. The range guard was pretty nice though, helped us both out a bit, I'm a horrible teacher.

If you fired an M1 garand the round is 30-06 which fires a 180gr projectile at around 2800fps. The AR15 fires 5.56/.223 which is a 55gr projectile at around 2800fps.
30-06 has way more recoil than 5.56 as a result

No, I have 2 M1s. They have a lot of recoil compared to an AR-15. little kids can shoot ARs without a problem. The M1 can be chambered in just about any cartridge that is based on the 30-06 or the .308, though most are just 30-06.
