I used to be a gun control advocate, but then I was slowly convinced by arguments here and elsewhere. What really turned the tide was applying the defending against tyranical governments to Romania.

Speciffically, let's take the 1989 "revolution". Historically, higher ups in the military decided after a few days to switch sides out of self-interest (the whole thing was essentially a coup by other communist party members). This ended the massacres against protestors that were happening and eventually Ceaușescu was caught and shot.

However, what if the generals and marshals and the like were interested in keeping the status quo? What if the army never switched allegiances and instead kept murdering every protestor, under orders and misinformation? The communist government was extremely effective at misinformation in particular.

The result would probably have been the same as it was at Tiananmen Square in China. Dead students and protestors, and continued tyranny. Guns were prohibited to everyone but hunters (who were few, far between and usually under surveilance), and there would have been no "good ending".

Same can probably apply to 1947 Romania, but in that case there were actual soviet troops stationed, but even so guerilla warfare could have been carried out and probably have had success.

Is there anyone here who genuinely thinks guns should be restricted?

There is probably nothing at all that will ever persuade American gun-owners that there is even a problem - a right-wing militia group could walk into the White House and shoot every living soul there, from the doorman to the president's family, and the NRA would still argue that there weren't enough guns available.

Mosin faggot. Kill yourself

Why would we think that scenario is a problem? That's literally the exact option that the 2nd amendment is designed to keep available.

>implying shooting every retard in the White House would be a bad thing
USA needs a good shakeup

This fantasy stems from the 18th century, when British redcoats and Hessians were armed with muskets not much better than what the colonists had. The Americans' misunderstanding of the reasons for the British defeat (it was French regulars and not the colonist militias that won it) led to the 2nd Amendment, which is based on the erroneous assumption that an armed population could win against a regular army. It wasn't true in the 1770s and it's even less true today.

>the american army has defeated a group of armed insurgents
>ever
There's a misunderstanding here, but it wasn't on the Framer's part.

The distinction between "armed population" and "regular army" disappears quite quickly as said armed population organizes.

It guarantees the Right to Keep and bear arms in order to maim and kill people with them!
Sorry, my misunderstanding, it guarantees the Right to Keep and Bear Arms in order to march on the Pentagon and replace the US military with a slaveholder citizen's militia. Sorry, got a bit confused.

Was there supposed to be a coherent sentence somewhere in between all this spaghetti you spilled?

Well, it wasn't your guns that won your the War of Independence, it was French intervention. Privately held guns are never going to safeguard anyone's liberty - it was the French tyrannical monarchy that gave you your liberty... or at least the liberty of those who weren't slaves.

No. Javascript makes those threads.

What did this have to do with your previous post?

The French Navy, particularly cutting off a naval escape of the British force from Yorktown.

There weren't enough French regular ground forces in the Thirteen Colonies to fill a high school football stadium.

Now the individual French officers serving as junior leaders and military advisors throughout the Colonies, also the Prussians, Poles, etc, those were the real backbone of the force.
