Whereas a film is often fast and loose, showing not telling, with a focus on symbolism.
I think that is the distinction he is making, that women focus on minor details and plot points rather than the big picture.

Sayo yamamoto still has some realistic aspects in her direction, and it always tend to follows the same formula.
Good example of female director with good imagination is Matsumoto Rie, but she's too young to be associated with Ghibli (and anime industry really depends on connection).
There are many famous female animators at Ghibli though.
